Kelley Washington signed

I never said they were. Just that it's fun to pull players out form under a divisional team. I'm sure you feel the same way.

The A.Thomas signing yes, I would agree. These WR signings....meh, not so much.

Not one of the three WR you've signed has 1000 yard season nor probowl, Two of them have had injury issues recently and the other you gave up 2 draft picks for. It's not like you signed Terrell Owens, Steve Smith and Marvin Harrison!!! Sure you added to your WR group, but none of them are excepetional WR's, infact all three are nothing more then slot receivers. I'll be shocked if one of them isn't released before the start of the season.

Good thing since he turned down playing for Miami for more money..... Both these guys come with one year deals at a very low risk. Stallworth has been injured less then Deion branch has. Did you think Deion was any good? Stallworth has twice the tds is bigger and faster. Has a better average and more natural talent.. Dont get much better then alow risk one year deal for short money.

As a number of people have pointed out there is still training camp, and that might shuffle the pack of WRs differently to some of the prognostications above. The other unknowns at this stage, which will be the largest determining factors are their ability to run routes, choose options and finally but most importantly the chemistry between TB and each of the new guys.

I say this because Tom has repeatedly stood by Caldwell and praised his effort and capabilities in the first two areas, and their joint peformance throughout the season clearly indicated their chemistry was working. Caldwell dropped a major pass in the AFCC, but then many team members made mistakes that day, and lest we forget (or refuse to watch the game again) he also made some good ones. I really dont understand why some on this board are so quick to get rid of him. If Tom is comfortable with him, then for goodness keep him. I think Caldwell will be more productive because the opposing defense have much more to worry about with any or all of the new WRs.

I also think TB and Gaffney appear to have chemistry, but for the new guys DS, WW, and KW we wont know until after training camp, Beijing, the preseason and the first 6 games of the season. The law of averages suggest that at least one of the new three could go the same way as Hayes, Terrell or Gabriel

I'm imagining the following dialogue between Phil Simms and Jim Nantz during the Patriots first offensive possession of the '07 season:

Simms: "And Belichick is laughing on the sideline, Jim! Look at him! He's laughing!"

lololol. I honestly laughed when I read that. I feel like maybe Belichick will be laughing more on defense, with Thomas playing corner

There's no way David Patten makes this team.

Hahaha, that is awesome.

I agree with those saying Washington doesn't make the team. Hell, I don't even makes it out of the whirlpool before they let him go. The guy has hardly played in two years.

so no Troy Brown?

To me, the loading up of WR vets has more to do with concerns for Chad Jackson, be it an indictment on his ability or the severity of his injury, than issues about Troy.

The fight for a roster spot at the WR position will be very interesting in preseason just as it was a couple years ago when we had Deion, Givens, Troy, Andre Davis, Bethel, Tim Dwight and David Terrell.

Nantz: "...and on the offensive line, the Patriots have Matt Light, Logan Mank--"
Simms [interrupting]: "Hold on, Jim! It's just Koppen out there now!"
Nantz: "Excuse me, you're right! Brady's under center...and where is the rest of the offensive line?"
Simms: "They're not gonna go with one! It's just Brady and Koppen and a...a...a bunch of receivers!"
Nantz: "I count Marony, Watson, Kyle Brady, and then it just gets ridiculous. We've got seven wides, folks! There's Caldwell at the top of your screen, Gaffney's under him, Welker's in motion--no wait, that's Brown--Welker's-- Oh hell, I don't see Welker!"
Simms: "That's because Welker's under center, Jim!"
Nantz: "Oh, God, you're right! Welker's under center and Brady's in motion! What is going on! I've never seen anything like this before...and neither has the defense apparently, b/c they just called a time out!"
Simms: "And Belichick is laughing on the sideline, Jim! Look at him! He's laughing!"

I've read some entertaining stuff in my months of lurking on here, but that is unrivalled.

Take a bow son.

You make some good points, but Brady did stand by Terrell and he didstand by Graham as a receiver even when he was dropping everything that hit him. Hes a good teammate and a captain, and (esp.) if he has a personal relationship with a guy, hes going to support him.

Reche Caldwell was not meant to be a number one on this team. We still had Deion Branch when Caldwell was signed. I have nothing against the guy, but I don't think he has the physical talent to be a starter on this team. San Diego gave Caldwell every opportunity when wide receiver has been their greatest weakness, and they still cut him.

Also, wasn't Caldwell in the fold when Brady had that infamous secret screaming session with BB and the FO where they promised to sign players this year after he had taken a less lucrative/more cap-friendly deal?

**** New England and everything about them. Look how scared they are of us. They sign Welker from us, which im thrilled we got 2 draft picks for him, then they get Stalloworth, and now Washington. They are really scared of us so they keep signing the players we want. Not only that, they are severly overpaying which i love.

You know what, good. Let them sign all these receivers. Now they have too many. We will now be able to draft a receiver and i bet he will be better than Stallworth and Washington.

So far, weve brought in Porter and Schlesinger. Now those are 2 very solid moves. Even though they brought in Thomas, i think we are better off than they are. They are desperate and it shows. We are patient, and have only signed quality players. Let NE keep making the moves, makes no difference when they play us. With Porter and Taylor coming from both sides, Brady will be on his back long before he gets to hit any of his receivers.

We will address our offensive needs in the draft which is the smart move. This will be a great draft. We will come out winners.

Nothing beats how desperate NE is from keeping players from us. I love it.

Are some fans really that full of themselves that they think every move another team makes is in direct response to them?

yeh cleo lemon has us shaking in our boots

Thats hilarious.. I love how all the Fins fans are completely changing their stance on both Stallworth and Washington. I remember reading the boards earlier this week before we signed either guy and the Fins fans were glowing about both of them. Now that they are in Pats unis they are both scrubs who are overpaid by the Pats and Hagan will be the savior of the Dolphins! I love it.

A crazy offseason gets even crazier. Brady has GOT to be loving it though.

Guess this means Brown is gone and/or Jackson won't make it for the start of the year.
I think it means that there will be healthy competition in training camp if Brown returns, and that they wisely do not want to count on Brown's return nor Jackson's availability week 1. (As many others have speculated CJ will probably start the season on PUP.)

So we picked him up for 300 grand this season with the ability to extend him?
No, that's just the signing bonus. We'll have to wait for more contract details to find out what the 2007 salary is (>= vet minimum), but that will be on top of the sb. However, if the brain trust decides not to keep him before week 1 (about a week before the first game - see the NFL calendar sticky thread for exact date) we only owe him the 300K sb, which is really chicken feed given the salary cap budget.

I love how many Fin fans feel that beating us once a year somehow makes up for all the division titles and Superbowls we have recently won over them.

Is there *anything* more pathetic than a Fin Fan? They make the Jets fans look like geniuses

Am I the only one bummed by this? After signing Stallworth I was hoping to grab a young guy like Stuckey in rounds 3/4 so we could groom him. WR is really strong this year and some good ones will slide. Now it looks like we don't have room for one. Well, at least we don't need to worry about the Pats using a #1 pick on WR.

im not bummed at all but it raises questions..is Chad done for the season? Will we continue passing a lot in trips or 4 wide formations? Is someone going to get cut?

I understand Caldwell had a bad showing in Indy but no way does he go from our #1 WR to being cut..i wouldnt have minded Caldwell as our #2 in the Givens role and then let Gaffney battle

Yeah, with San Diego, Baltimore, Indy, Denver, Jacksonville, Cincy, etc...all in the AFC, we're a'scared of ....Miami...
