Sources: Jets scrambled for Forte after Pats call

Sorry for the ESPN link, but Schefter's scoop so can't really avoid it...

I don't think we ever had a chance to sign Forte based on the cash the Jets shelled out. BB simply wouldn't pay that to a 30-year old RB. If he would, he might as well have re-signed Vereen, who got a similar deal at a much younger age from the Giants.

Still, we might have run up the price tag a bit for them. Funny to see how reactive they are. They were still feeling smug about overpaying Revis. Forte has had a good year, but no way I'd want him for that price tag. Blount on a 1-year, $1M deal with a returning Dion Lewis and James White emerging is much better.

Patriots are fine at running back. Don't think Forte would have been that much of an upgrade, if at all, over what they currently have. And, as for everyone wondering why they didn't draft someone, the guys people loved in the draft like Booker are pretty bad.

As long as Blount is healthy, yes. But, there's not a lot of talent behind him in terms of traditional backs. Forte at that price probably wasn't worth it though.

i prefer blount/james white and dion!
