Not sure he turned Drew around - and if he did he had some veteran help from an ageless QB'ing mentor and a decent student. Not sure the job in NY is not more a salvage operation, although Bradway was said to be falling in love at the Senior Bowl, and not with the impact LT thyre in lign for either. Of course without that LT a Vanderbilt QB won't stay healthy too long either. They don't play anything resembling the NFL game or even face top college competition at old Vanderbilt. They just lose.
Borges was on with Felger last night and even he is taking the position that young Eric is just too immature in the league, not to mention the baby face won't help, he has so little experience defensively except as a position coach and none save by osmosis on offense, is having choices foisted on him including a holdover DC in part because the moves he'd have tried to make were blocked almost immediately, and doesn't even seem to have a wiley old timer he can bring in to lean on. Felger even remains convinced BB stepped in after week 10 and exerted more influence on the D because Eric was struggling. Now he will be fully at the mercy of Bradway, and Borges says that is never a good thing to be. Borges characterized the JETS as just an organizational mess.
Felger says he couldn't get anyone in the locker room to say a bad thing about Eric, but it was more what they wouldn't say - like damming him with faint praise. All said he is a very bright schemer, none would say he was ready to be a HC. While they respect him based on his X's and O's prowess (comments like he could certainly draw up some interesting schemes), he is not someone who commands a room as say RAC or Charlie did even as coordinators, the experience plus the forceful persona those cagy old war vets had. As Broges said too, while he has 3 rings as a position coach under BB, he just doesn't have that cache players take note of which BB, RAC and Charlie all had when they walked in the door. Some of which we probably missed this year when the going got tough.
Borges told the story of how having once been berated by BB for being in the tub, Cumar refused to get in it thereafter. For Eric it's going to be tough from the first day of mini camp. Borges doesn't think he'll matchup well against guys like an already disgruntled Abraham for command and control of the clubhouse. Unless his schemes produce dramatic results early on that capture players attention, they'll just tune him out and start freelancing or grousing and Bradway will be too busy trying to placate players and save his own skin to be of any use to him.
