Today's loss moved us way up in the draft. We were at #26 but from a quick look will move all the way up to about #22.

This is before today :

19 Dallas 9-6 .521
20 Denver (from Washington) 9-6 .546
21 San Diego 9-6 .554
22 Tampa Bay 10-5 .446
23 Carolina 10-5 .454
24 New York Giants 10-5 .496
25 Pittsburgh 10-5 .500
26 New England 10-5 .500

With Pittsburgh, NYG, Carolina, TB all winning we move past them to #22. If Washington makes the playoffs, we'd move past them, also, to #21 I believe.

I'll take the #32 pick please

Sure, but if we don't get to the SB it's sure nice to have moved up in a strong draft.

LaRon Landry, Darnell Bing or Greg Blue will likely be available, and all would be good fits as hard hitting safeties at that position. Maybe even LenDale White from USC.

That's a strong possibility, IMO, it's time to start getting ready for the post Dillon era. They could split time next year. We have lots of picks for a Safety later.

Lets cross that bridge when and IF it comes.

Well, this is a very strong safety draft class, so it's feasible that they could pick up a good one in round 2. Blue may be available there, he's a huge hitter. White should be a good, physical NFL back, with a nose for the goalline, so I wouldn't object to that pick, but one of those rangy, hard hitting safties as insurance for Rodney and to groom for the future would look nice too. Could also look at a linebacker, but there's a drop off after the top 3 and they might all be gone by the time the Pats pick.

Remember that within the group of teams who will be tied at 10-6 what round of the playoffs you get to overrides the normal tiebreakers, which could affect our seeding compared to WSH and DAL. Because we made the playoffs we are behind KC even though they are also 10-6.

Oh, I didn't know that. My mistake. I knew all playoff teams were below non playoff teams but I thought after that only the two Super Bowl teams had their draft position affected by the playoff results.

Re-reading what you said, you're just saying for the 10-6 group as opposed to overiding tiebreakers based on record, so while I assume you are correct, it wouldn't have a large effect.

Of course, I still hope to be picking #32.

Yes. Except for the SB participants moving to 31 and 32, you always stay in a group with other teams with the same record. The order within that group is based first on whether you make the playoffs and how far you go, and then after that the normal strength-of-schedule tiebreakers.

And remember also that the teams rotate each succeeding round within their group, so if we are the first of all 10-6 teams to pick in the first round then we are the last of them to pick in the second round.
