I don't care...I am proud of that 16-0 banner

We're proud of what we did?

What position did you play?

I agree. ive said it before ill say it again. 20 years from now nobodys going tongive 2 sh*** about the 09 saints, 02 buccaneers, 12 Ravens, etc... But everyone is going to remember the 07 pats and how they came a game away. 16-0 may never be done again, plus the only teams who came close had way easier schedules, and lost to some creampuff team like atlanta. We went 16-0 facing almost every great team that season. An amazing accomplishment..

I wish Carolina had gone 16-0, then lost to a wild card team, then we'd finally end this nonsense.

Here's my take:
This may sound strange, but winning the Superbowl is a regular occurrence. Someone will win the Super Bowl every year. It WILL happen again this Feb. That is why an undefeated season is something to strive toward. It is something that is very far above and beyond just winning a Super Bowl. That's why it never has happened since 1972. I don't remember every team that's won the Super Bowl even the last 15 years. Can't name them. It's too common for that. But an undefeated super bowl champ though... that is for eternity. I don't understand people saying "who cares about an undefeated season, the real goal is just to win the super Bowl". Going undefeated is hard, and that's why it's amazing and unforgettable in the annals of human achievement. Go ahead and set your sights on the Super Bowl. I'm right there with you, but if you have a chance (13-0?) to win out and go for it all, I say seize the day. I'm cool with the 16-0 banner, even with the heartbreak at the end, because I believe the team had a responsibility to go for it all when they were that close. The fact that no one else has done it in a 16 game season is testament enough to the difficulty. I'm proud that the Patriots went for it all, despite the outcome.
Totally agree with your opinion in general on the undefeated season… I think pretty much exactly the same thing: Super Bowls are won every year, an undefeated season is historic.

Having said that, I didn't like the banner. 16-0 is amazing, but it's not an undefeated season. It didn't end well, so the banner just didn't sit right with me.

A bit of hyperbole in play here I think. Too emotionally draining? Try working in an ER or saving innocent children from destructive homes EVERY day. Going 16-0 and having to hear some talking heads opine about it? If that is emotionally draining to these guys then they're in the right profession.
Hey, everybody, it's That Guy.

I appreciated the accomplishment generally, as no team had ever run the table on the regular season (but there have been 4 15-1 teams, which is very close). And they were destroying playoff caliber teams to get there (Carolina benefitted from a relatively easy schedule - 3 teams in the playoffs).

But the Pats have always celebrated titles, not playoffs or otherwise. They could paper the stadium with all of their records (playoff wins, streaks, etc.) since 2001, but kept the banners to titles. The coach has preached finishing, so that 16-0 banner seemed out of place.

I agree with what you are saying and have to say that as an European I never quite understood the American attitude that is all about the bottomline.

The 2007 team gave us a 5 month long ride that was amazing and felt great for every ****ing day back then. It was an amazing season and deserves to be lauded and celebrated no matter how the final game ended. Does anyone seriously think that the SB loss would hurt a lot less if we were 15-1 in the regular season ?

Similarly, I rather be the Patriots, be successful every year, make the playoffs and lose at some point than be the Giants win one more SB but stink up most of the other seasons to the point where it is not fun watching the games.

I wonder how the players felt about it? I think it's kind of cool and unique. We're the only ones to have done it and they did it in spectacular fashion. TBH i'm way over the SB loss and either way 2007 is probably the most memorable Patriots season ever. I can see wanting to commemorate it. I would've left it up until another team did it.

banners are for championships

If you want something up for 16-0, maybe display a plaque or a nice fruit basket.

It's not something to be ashamed of, or anything, but it doesn't come close to the other banners
