How Would You Feel About Taking Hunter as a WR? (At #4)

He’s not and most boards don’t even bother to rank him as such. There’s way more money in WR and he’s entering the combine as a CB. That should speak volumes.

I posted a potential reason why a guy who has been adamant about playing on both sides of the ball would go to the combine as a CB, the answer could be do to the schedule at the event.

I don't have the graphic handy, but here is the post.

Carter & Hunter gone by 4# Trade down?

mod edit:

The counterpoint is if he's the dynamic athlete that has been portrayed, he will get more opportunities to make plays on offense as a WR... ie he will touch the ball more.

But it isn't a hill I am gonna die on... Personally, I want a LT in the first round... despite all the push back I get over "value" and "being a reach" its still the direction I think that would best serve the long term interests of this team...

If we don't take a LT, its not like Maye is gonna have the time to throw to him anyways... so his best fit position will work itself out that way
The dude is a dynamic player, to be sure. I am not sure if that will translate to the NFL. I want to go back and look at the Nebraska, Kansas State and Kansas games to see how they played in losses. I'm with you on the LT pick... but ... Let's not take a Cole Strange type pick and reach at #4 if the guy they should take is slotted to be 12-15.

cole strange was a day 3 pick taken in round 1... world of difference, for me, taking a guy at 4 (or later if we drop down a few spots) who might go at 10 in round 1...

If this draft is weak as they say, then, the "reach" isn't as much of a reach at all for the most important hole to fill

i get that the majority of people don't see it my way... so, ymmv

You have a serious axe to grind against the BEst Player in the Draft. Are you Jerod Mayo in disguise??

The Guy played two ways in College next to impossible: and you don't think he will translate on the NFL level. Didn't BB play Troy Brown and Edelman @ CB for little?? Yeah I really remember them getting toasted and Hunter is a million times more talented.

He didn't play an NFL schedule. There's a huge difference in the guys he was roasting from North Dakota State and playing the best in the business on Sundays. All I said was I wanted to look at more film. The dude is the Heisman trophy winner. I know he's good. Just how good is what I wanna know.

I would always pick Hunter if he drops to us. So many can't miss prospects fail to live up to their hype, but he is just too talented to fail at two positions.

If you guys can’t decide on what position he is, that’s a red flag.

i bet 99% he will go top 3
Rapoport has said that Cleveland is picking a QB and Sanders is reported to have said that he is going to the Browns. The Titans and the Giants need a QB too. Hard for me to believe that Ward and Sanders are not in the Top 3. Hunter could be the other one in the Top 3, or Carter, and I think it will be Carter. I am not 99% sure.

I recently read a post by a Pats fan that stated that Hunter "has bust written all over him." Sure, a player who was the best player in the country in high school and the best player in the country in college, who did something that the other player in modern college football history has done and did it at an elite level on both sides of the ball and who is probably the most dynamic overall athlete in the entire draft has bust written all over him.
LOL. There are some real morons out there in Pats Nation.

I'd take Carter if both were available but I'd be thrilled if they take Hunter at 4. We'd potentially have our own Garrett Wilson, without having to give him a massive contract extension in the off-season.

Draft Scouts, he’s the best wide receiver , and the best cornerback in the draft, and the top academic athlete in the country.

Certain Patriot fans “ those are some serious red flags.”

That would be for us to know and rest of the league to find out. I love the intrigue if we got him.

Would love the pick. Game changing player. Don't think he'll be there at 4, and Pats take Campbell at that spot. Which I'm also good with.

Got to, the chance to get Drake a legit #1. That would do wonders to unlock his abilities. Worst case scenario is a dynamic cb pair with Gonzo.

If vrabel is true to his word about wanting to enter the draft with a capable roster and have an open minded approach to each pick then its all the more reason to embrace it. As it stands looks like some real opportunities to upgrade LT , wr, DL, Edge, Mlb, cb and hopefully rt going into the draft.

I do wonder if analysis paralysis around this topic from other teams will make him drop to #4. IMO Vrabel would scoop him up immediately.

If he wants to play both sides, I think it's easier to focus primarily on CB and then be a package player at WR than it is the other way around. At WR, you can simplify someone's role on one play and any audibles. On defense, you need to be able to adjust with the rest of the unit to what the opponent is doing. It's much harder for someone to step into situationally, IMO.
