I propose the Patriots make the following announcement:

After the end of all home games played in cold weather we will, in the presence of journalists, measure the pressure in all our footballs in a warm environment.

The first measurements will be made as soon as possible after the game. The final four measurements will take place at a time corresponding to when the Colt's footballs were measured.

If nothing else scares the NFL this will - because it will be revealed that nothing at all untowards happened in the AFC game. Imagine the publicity this will get each time the measurements are made - there is the obvious element of suspense and there is the ongoing confrontation between the Patriots and the League/Wells.

I am sure the media will be doing this for a while with their own previously inflated footballs that are 12.5-13.0 at room temp then exposing them to the elements during cold rainy games and reporting it as the game goes along.

And they will be fined $1M and a second round draft pick for purposely attempting to embarrass the league.

Does the team get custody of the balls after the game, or does the league?

I doubt it. That sounds too much like work. Much easier to make up "sources" or wait for Irsay to get drunk or high and report what he says than to actually think and learn and write.

You expect waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much from the media machine. Guys like Curran are NOT the norm, rather the exception to the rule. The overwhelming majority of mediots are useless.

"WHOMG!!! The Patriots are using rigged gauges to make their voodoo science law work!". There's really no way to win.

That will just turn this from a Three Ring to a Four Ring Circus. Plus, as another poster has observed, the posters will just say something like the gauges were fixed or the Patriots did something else "tricky" to get the desired results.

There's no way of winning this kind of game for the Pats. They just shouldn't play it.
