How likely is it Cassel will stay/go in 2009?

(A) What would you suggest as a contract Cassel might sign?
(B) Remember these rules involving contracts signed this year:
* The 30% rule on salaries--for each $1M in 2009 salary, future salaries can increase by no more than $300K per year.
* Any money guaranteed beyond 2012 automatically counts against the 2009 cap.
* So does any 2010 roster/reporting bonus.

I'm in the ">90% trade" camp, but for example paying him $10 million a year for 4 years with the no bonuses at all and the first 2 years fully guaranteed might do it.

There are so many permutations that involve little to no salary cap hit that I expect someone (like the Patriots, if needed) could come up with something that Cassel would be happy to sign and still leave the Patriots full flexibility in a trade scenario.

good pole...really made me think...thanks

I went with the 60% traded option because, while I think it's more likely than not that Matt will be elsewhere next season, I also think there is reasonable uncertainty about when and whether TB will be ready. It's more than likely that he will be ready, but it's not a sure thing. He made it clear yesterday or today that he feels he's on schedule and that he is feeling good, but he's got a ways to go. Until he's moving and playing at speed, there's no way to know for sure.
