How Good a Secondary Coach is Capers?

I'm thinking this will affect how we approach FA and draft. I think most agree the Pats need another ILB, although as has been repeated ad nauseum, the Pats never draft them. But I'd much rather go front 7 than CB in the first round, particularly if we don't draft down. It again makes me think of how good a secondary coach Mangini was, and if we can get that kind of coaching again, we don't need a protypical number 1 cb. So: is he good? How good?

He's more than another secondary coach, he's a "special assistant." Capers is just another bright football mind to put into the mix and I think he's going to have a hell of a lot more control and input than the title "secondary coach" suggests. And that's a good thing.

The last two seasons, this defense has been given the opportunity to stop a team from driving 80 yards in a 2 minute drill in order to either advance to the Super Bowl or win the Super Bowl. It failed both times. Change is coming.

I think the loss of Mangini as defensive backs coach hurt the Pats.

Dom Capers was a defensive backs coach for his first six years in

professional football. He is probably a very good one; otherwise, he

wouldn't have been hired a defensive co-ordinator. With his experience

as co-ordinator and head coach, I think he will also help out in improving

the Pats' overall defense.
