How concerned are you about Gronk?

Of course we are concern about Gronk. Yes we can win without him but that clearly is not ideal. If the Pats had Gronk that Falcons game would have gone a lot smoother imo. He is a big time game changer and has morphed into more of a big play player now that we have more weapons. Personally I like the idea of Gronk being out there only half the time and not bothering to catch anything less than 20 yards till the playoffs or unless we are in the red zone.

My ideally stat line for Gronk is 60 catches for 1100 yards and 10 TDs. Mix in big plays with short TD passes. Only have him do something if it is going to be high value. The Pats need to do a better job limiting his use.

He is not going anywhere this year unless some team goes crazy with an offer which i highly doubt.

If the titans offered number 18 would you do it?

All I am saying is that hope he plays a full season or else management may start getting ideas that he is just a risky investment come contract extension time.
We still have two full seasons left and Gronk still in his prime, but after that anymore back injuries should serve a red flag.

We will have to look in the draft regardless this year incase Bennett decides to leave us for a bigger paycheck.

No way in hell. I would ride him into the ground. But I'm not Bill.

And unless Mitchell falls off a cliff or gets injured again, I like our WRs. Signing Floyd would essentially be a Floyd for Amendola trade. No way I do that. Not comparing them talent wise, but Danny has that clutch gene like Troy Brown did. That's huge. Floyd, on the other hand, contributed almost nothing in the playoffs and couldn't even make the roster in the final two games. Not to mention the fact that he's a dirtbag. I'm good with the whole Floyd experiment.

I know this: the Patriots can fall behind by 28-3 with 17 minutes left in the Super Bowl without him.

I am all for upgrading the offense. RB and at least one receiver.

Edelman and Amendola are great in the slot. Mitchell is going to be a fantastic possession guy, ala Givens.

The person who needs to be replaced though is Hogan. He had an excellent year. But other QBs have the luxury of airing the ball out to players who can snag it. That long throw to Edelman (perfectly thrown) was beyond Julian's ability. We need a guy who can run fast and has the length and body control to bring that down.

Any game he plays is a bonus in my eyes from now on.

Bennet is as good as gone. He mentioned twice in a Super Bowl post game interview about how champions get overpaid. If that's what he's thinking about minutes after winning a title it's obvious what his priorities are. Some guys don't mind losing all that much.

We have Gronk on the cheap for the next two years. The only way Bill gives him a huge extension is if he puts together 2 years of injury free football and doesn't try to renegotiate in the next year or two.

Also, people assume it's a given that he comes back and he is Gronk again. It's not. The doctor that did his surgery said few players are ever the same after two disc surgeries. That was Gronk's third. So it's not a given at all.

Nope. For Gronk I want multiple first or a top 3 pick. I say top 3 cause that can easily be turned into multiple high first. I doubt any team offers it though.

If I trade Gronk I want to be able to draft either Njoku or Howard while having the majority of the value yet to be spent.

If I trade Gronk for #3 I do this.

Trade it for #8 and that teams first next year.

Then Trade the #8 pick for #16 & #48.

Then I trade from #16 for #20 and a 4th this year.

Only then do I pick the one left or the one I want of Njoku and Howard.

I also have #48 and a 4th this year as well as a high pick next year.

Even though he has already peaked in skill, he is still the best TE in the game. But yes obviously it is a serious concern. Beasts like him have soft tissue problems.

Floyd wasn't even here a whole year. Give him training camp at least. I think he will be back. Amendola has been clutch but he likely will have to take another paycut to stay.

Gronk works hard and will be back. I just hope they ease him back from this injury/surgery kind of like they did a couple years ago. Maybe he should be on the IR- to return list like Dion Lewis, that way he will be back in time for playoffs.

Those two guys could be there at number 18.

But yes, I agree we do need to draft a TE regardless.

I've already written him off. He will probably get injured at some point next year too. His family does not have a good relationship with Bill and Bill values availability over ability. Barring a career ending injury he will not finish with the Patriots.

We just won the Super Bowl without him. So not worried at all. Like I said, I have already moved on. I am mentally prepared for the trade that will inevitably happen when his cap hit goes up or he starts crying for a pay raise. We have watched Bill operate for too long. It's never about one guy. It's about the team.
It is hard to argue with what you wrote here. After the injuries and this season SB championship two things are clear.. Patriots (and any team) can win the SB without Gronk, and two he should not be expecting raises or anything even if he lights it up. I envision Gronk being an important piece of the offense but with a much more distributed role like this year. If he whines for money I have no doubt whatsoever BB would trade him for the best he can get. Why would anyone doubt that at this point? However, I can also see him being a great soldier for the team, even if healthy for the rest of his contract.

I also do wonder, and I am curious about people's opinions about the idea of platooning him or saving him up. (Using him gradually and sparingly so he is more healthy and rested for the playoffs) What do you guys think?

We won without Gronk which is amazing. Gronk possesses a skillset that is unparalled and his blocking is elite. We are better with Gronk in the lineup than without him and that is a fact.

Injuries are a concern, but not sure what to do. I would like to see him remain on the team and hopefully he can stay healthy and be a key component on next year's title run.

The one thing is that his injuries are not about being overplayed or poor work ethich. He might need to adjust his game to avoid contact a bit more and protect himself. Perhaps rather than barreling a guy over he might need to avoid contact (which might lower his YAC, but protect himself). Perhaps when he plays a wide receiver (non-red zone), he gets split out wide a bit more than going up the middle.
