Bill let a few players go that hurt the team through the years:

Branch (They have 7 SB's at minimum right now if he stays)
Thuney (Imagine him on the team right now?)

I don't think he goes for 4th and 13 with Vinatieri. Or, maybe it had nothing to do with the kicker and his ego thought his offense could actually convert it regardless. That decision made no sense with how the game was going.

Chuck's effort, success and brilliance dwarf anything Parcells ever did here. His effect on the Patriots is still implemented to this day. So precedent has been set, and it did take me years to come around on Parcells.

I think a deeper dive into exactly how Fairbanks was undermined repeatedly by ownership would help you come around. The Sullivans treatment of the Stingley tragedy when it happened was the last straw.
