Gronk, Pats trying to reach new contract

i'd be okay with him making more money so long as that money is heavily weighted with game day roster bonuses.

I'm guessing Rosenhaus Inc. are here for Sheard officially, and inquiring about Gronk while they're at it. The Pats focus (one would guess, but who knows) is Hightower, Collins, Sheard, Butler, in whatever order they place them. Also of concern would be Ninkovich and Slater who I think are FAs in 2017, but are likely lower contract amounts.

Gronk is set to make $8.25M/yr over the next 4 years thanks to the option bonus he was paid at the end of March.

I think that signing Sheard, Hightower, Butler, and Collins to extensions would be more conducive to a stronger team in the long run.

I love Gronk. He's paid very well currently. An extension now isn't going to free up more than $1.5M. An extension for Hightower, on the other hand, could free up quite a bit of money..

I agree with you except on the idea that Gronk is paid well.. he's vastly underpaid when compared to other players that have similar production, mostly all of which are wide receivers..

Its tough to manage.. on one hand Gronk signed an extension only 2 years into his rookie deal, so he traded top dollar salary for immediate security with a long term deal that had a large amount of upfront guaranteed money, with sizeable roster bonus options throughout the deal..

On the other hand, Gronk is a rare generational talent that massively produces for the team and is a well liked and positive player. so you don't want to get too caught up on principles that would piss him off and make him unhappy

Completely agree though that the other young, core players are a higher priority because they're at the end of their contracts and need to be extended or lost to free agency... Gronk is signed thru 2020, so there is no immediate need to rush and give him more money when there are still key contributors waiting for their first big contract

Gronk can wait... they need to extend Hightower, Collins and Sheard first.. then butler and solder...

Then they can focus on sweetening Gronk's deal

As long as we re-sign Butler, Collins, hightower and sheard first.
This almost sums it up. I would say as long as signing Gronk doesn't impede the teams ability to sign Hightower, Collins, Butler and Sheard. I don't really care about the order of when It all happens. Also, I feel like Sheard is a nice player but he has not shown enough for me to think he has the value to the team as the other three do.

Gronk has no leverage so I am not sure why the pats would be trying to rework his contract. IMO, he signed a new contract after two years because he wanted some security because of his injury history. I hope the pats first extend Butler, Hightower, Collins and Sheard before they think about giving Gronk a bump in salary.

Elite wideouts averaged 14M. Gronk has 4 years left. 4 times 14 = 56. 56-6 (already received) = 50 (a 24m increase over current schedule) Do not see how paying Gronk like an elite wideout will create significant cap savings in the near future.
