When I was the defensive coordinator with the Giants and coached the secondary, Everson Walls had been in the league for whatever it was – 10 years, 50-some career interceptions. There were certain things he did that as a coach you didn’t want to change because he had so much success doing it that way and maybe he wouldn’t be comfortable doing it another way, but that wouldn’t work for a younger player . . . Revis would be another example of that. Not every player can play like Revis, but Revis played very good the way he plays, so you’re kind of coaching Malcolm one way and you’re coaching Revis another way. And a guy like [Brandon] Browner is different from Revis, different from Malcolm, but he also was a productive player.

I think what they do is amazing ... so many different packages and they never look confused at all. I wonder if we can find out how many defense time outs have been called due to confusion or time running low to switch the package ... I'm not sure I saw any this year. Not to take anything away from the offense coaches ... I'm just more amazed by the defense cohesion.

Prior to the start of the season I thought that the defense would have to rely on the front 7 creating pressure to mask the apparent weakness in the secondary but little did I know that these guys would evolve into a solid group capable of shutting down top wr corps.

I just wish they would blitz more ...
That's just selfish on my part ...
they make the right calls I just want to see hell unleashed more often with these players.

Field Yates looked and gave exact numbers in 2013.

Just taking a quick look at the Pats' current staff compared to the higher teams, the difference seems to be at the assistant or "quality control" level. For example, the Pats have only three total: (Steve) Belichick, Schuplinski, and Ventrone.

The Eagles, on the other hand, have an assistant for each of the OL, DL, LB, DB, and ST groups, plus two quality control coaches. They also have two assistant S&C coaches plus the "sports science coordinator," where the Pats just have one S&C assistant.

The Seahawks are a lot messier. They have assistants for the OL, WR, DL, and LB groups, an offensive assistant, a defensive assistant, two ST assistants, and three assistants in the secondary with the defensive coordinator acting as the main DB position coach.

I remember the threads wanting to fire Boyer back in 2012. And maybe he wasn't as good of a coach as back then. But it's a reminder that coaches are like players, and need experience and make mistakes and need to learn and grow and mature as well.

BB said he learned a ton from his Cleveland experience that helped shape how he did things in NE. That's why I have faith that Josh would do much better in his second stint.

Or maybe his secondary then was less talented AND decimated by injury. Wasn't that the year Jules had snaps as a DB?

There is a correlation, I have noticed, between how well the players are playing and how well we think the coaches are coaching. Perhaps it is in part because only one of these is visible to the fan.

Some years we've seen the stat that it's literally the smallest group in the league.

That said, I doubt Ernie Adams is in the figures. And Caserio does a bit of coaching. I don't know how volunteer assistants are accounted for. So the raw stats may not be perfectly accurate.

Multiple times, Reiss has made a point not only of praising Boyer, but of criticizing unnamed radio personalities who are on Boyer's case.

Philadelphia Eagles have the largest coaching staff in the NFL... again

Looks like the average is ~21

Chung...has...been ...playing...cornerback. And having some success. I think that says it all. They've been playing a lot of the season with only 2 cornerbacks, one of whom looked like he couldn't cover my grandmother last year and early this year.

It's such a confidence position. Great job Boyer!

I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually work Melvin in [probably future]. He seems to have size and athleticism, but his confidence got destroyed somewhere along the way.

I think we will see more blitz packages once Collins and Hightower are both on the field healthy.

I was under the impression that a lot of the scouting department "double dip" with coaching to help ingrain the system and the type players likely to succeed in it.
