This mock really is not so out of line with my own expectations. My only criticism is that there are oto many CBs in the first. Jonathan Joseph as a mid-first pick? Good God.
I think it's pretty clear that round about pick #28 or #29 most mock draft have teams reaching for a random player that everyone else has going in the 2nd. Yobouti, Chester, Allen, Addai... not that these are bad players, but they are on par with Kiwanuka, Howard, Simpson and a ton of other equally legit candidates.
The big shocker for me is John McCargo to Tampa at #23. WTF? How is that not a reach?
Greenway to Minnesota at #17, and Carpenter to the Pats at #21 seems perfectly reasonable to me. The tug of war in Dallas between Parcells and Jones will be the touchpoint at #18... that's the point where I'm really concerned that we lose Carpenter.
Lawson - Greenway - Carpenter... that's the trifecta for me in the first round. Not unrealistically, they go to Denver, Miami and Dallas, leaving us to pick among the talented remains of the LB class. My next choice would be Kiwanuka... or Wimbley. Of, if we wait till far later, McGarigle and Cogong seem like good mid-round prospects-- upside, but far more bust potential too.
The fact that Chad Johnson is not drafted in the first is a sign of good judgement to me. Chad is the prototype of an overhyped prospect, whose reputation is build off one good season and a great Combine. Personally, I wouldn't draft him before he 3rd. I know some fool GM is going to shoot his load a bit too early on Chad, and they'll release him three years later with as little fanfare and media attention as possible.
