Gonzalez, Red Sox complete seven-year deal

BOSTON -- Four months ago, the Red Sox and Adrian Gonzalez spent a weekend together laying the groundwork for a contract that will be formally announced this afternoon at a Fenway Park press conference.

Gonzalez, who would have been eligible for free agency at the end of the 2011 season, has agreed to terms with Boston on a deal that will pay him $154 over seven years, from 2012-18, two Major League sources confirmed.

I am glad the organization recognized the leadership and the ability of Gonzalez to handle playing with the pressure of trying of live up to a big contract. I think he will definitely remain consistent and hungry at least until he wins the World Series.
