Long would be an OLB for us. After the expected extension to Colvin, we would have a solid corps for the next few years in: Thomas, Long, Colvin, and Vrabel. It is important to add a top linebacker in free agency or the draft.

I'm not sure C.Long has the bulk to be a 3-4 de in our scheme. Of course, he's going to get bigger as he gets older. But, just doesn't seem to have the right size for our system. A kid who impressed me this year was that Dingle kid from WVU. He played against two very good T prospects. Otah and Loadholt his last two games. I didn't see much of him before that. But, he looked good against Pitt and Oklahoma. I think he might be a good value at 63 or 68. He's listed about 6'3 288. Could easily be a 300lb as he matures.

If we drafted Long, would you see him has a replacement for Seymour? According to Miguel, Seymour is due 6.8 million in 2008 and 9+ million in 2009. Wilfork is also an UFA after 2009.

IMO there is no way the Pats could extend Seymour and sign Long or Dorsey.

Too small to be a 3-4 DE. That would be like trying to put Klecko in there to replace Seymour. That just doesn't make sense.

Long's best chance to stick with the Pats would be to convert to OLB. I'm not sure how well he could do it, but that's what would need to happen for him to fit this team.

Top teams don't get to draft in the top 10 very often. We have fewer needs than any team in football, yet we are picking in the top ten. Awesome!.....

AFTER THAT
Anyone in the 5th or later is unlikely to make the 53 man squad; .....

Personally, I think that DE is most likely with two DB's before the end of the third round and the required OL in the 5th, and the required TE in the 6th.

Which is why I am hoping to draft a punter in the 2nd day....Our team is so deep (except LB's which hopefully gets addressed day 1)...why can't we take a flyer on a punter betweens rounds 5-6. Probably have several comp picks anyway to waste (not tradeable).

Maybe people are happy with the Ken Walters, Josh Miller and almost pro-bowl (fans vote) Chris Hanson - but if any position could use an upgrade on the Pats , that position could. Anyway, it is not as if (even if a drafted rookie made the team) that he would be needed much....especially if we can retain Moss next year. How many punts did Hanson do this year -35-45 ? You could give him (rookie punter) a few games to see if can handle the pressure and then if not , cut him and get another veteran retread punter -as we have done last few years (due to injuries).
