If you thought the speculation about Patriots QBs was bad this offseason, wait until the trade deadline passes this year.

A key fact to remember:

Bill Belichick has had rookies at QB2 to start a season. But he has never had a rookie at QB2 to start training camp.

So, realistically, there are only a couple of options at this point:

• Extend/franchise Garoppolo.
• Bring in a QB3 to groom and take over QB2 next year.
• Sign a veteran.
