Texans' Tarpinian proves toughness after brain surgery - Houston Chronicle

Long, thin, light brown hair hides the scar. Two years of safeguarding have kept the incision a secret. So when Jeff Tarpinian agrees to discuss the day doctors sliced into the lower back of his neck, opened his skull and removed a collection of abnormal blood vessels near the cerebellum portion of his brain, he asks for a few days of patience before he will speak.

The Texans linebacker told his immediate family and close friends about the surgery. New England coach Bill Belichick, owner Bob Kraft and select Patriots personnel helped ease Tarpinian through his three-month recovery.

Except when he plays against the Patriots, I wish him the best of luck.

Re: OT: Tarpinian Brain Surgury

Always liked him when he was here. Seemed like a good kid when interviewed and played hard. I hope his career continues, even if it's in Houston.

Re: OT: Tarpinian Brain Surgury

Tarpinian IR with the Patriots was followed up with brain surgery. He asked BB and Kraft to keep it quiet.

Texans LB Tarpinian kept brain surgery secret for 2 years

Wow. Amazing news, and good to know he's fine and is able to return to play professional football after having that surgery in 2011. It's also a reason why the medical status of players is nobody's business but theirs, their family and their employer. This validates the tight-lipped approach to injuries that is the Patriots' policy. It allows the player to determine how he's going to handle his career going forward rather than having to respond to media questions or partially accurate reports.

Good luck, Jeff.
