Favre takes Jets from decent to dangerous

We are no longer top dog in the DIVSION. How are the Pats ever going to compete with a HOF QB like Brett Favre? Just hand them the division trophy now. What is the point of actually playing the games? It's a waste of time. The JETS ARE THE BEST TEAM IN THE DIVISION NOW. Just get on the bandwagon now so that you won't be left behind.
Patriots who? BB and the coaching staff must be hiding in a dark room shaking in fear.

It would be so cool if this board showed some class and kept the Favre threads to one or two.

Just a thought.

I tried to post a thread that I thought would put us back on topic. But it didn't work. I think that people are more worried than they say they are, IMO. Otherwise, they wouldn't be spending so much time talking about him.

Please, name them. Name 15 teams that are better than this year's Jets team. Look at the Jets roster before you do. This isn't last year's team.

OK. But, I think I'll let third parties, ESPN and Dr Z, generally hated by Pats Fans, name them for me. ESPN has the Jets at number 23 on their Power Rankings, so that's 22 teams. Dr Z has them 26, so that's 25.

The Jury is waaaaaaaaay out on whether Favre, actually playing at age 39 and not 38 as the wags are putting it this morning (DOB 10/10/69), will make them better. I don't see him fitting in with the NY media (remember Randy "are you dissing me, reporter?" Johnson). The only QB in NFL history to put up good numbers at the age of 39 was Phil Simms (11--5 as a starter). Could Favre do it? Yeah. Is it likely? Nope.

I think this is a desperation move by a franchise that was so frosted by the Giants' stealing the show in the Apple (where I live, BTW) last year that they felt they had to do almost anything to get print and pics on the back page of the News and Post.

That's my perception too.

I just can't bring myself to worry about a 38-39 year old QB. Yes he's a HOF, but IMHO, his best days are behind him not ahead of him.

This year's team has proven nothing, so technically there's 26 teams better the Jets. Being good on paper means nothing. Look at the Raiders the past few years.

Oh now...were going 2-14 now with farve in the division .....

I love ESPN and how they play it as if he is god and will take them to top of AFC east..

Especially going from one of the top 5 OLs in the League to a bottom 5 OL. Just because the Jets are trying to cobble something from people who were once good doesn't mean the result will be good. Woody hasn't even been average since his Detroit stint, and Faneca has been mediocre for two years. D'Brick looks like a bust. Mangold is good, and then we have a cast that isn't nearly as good as their name recognition or salary. We're going to see what happens when an immobile quarterback doesn't have time to scan the field. It will be like Drew Bledsoe all over again.

I'll wager that come January 2009, Peyton Manning is the active player with the most consecutive QB starts.

If Anything...

Guys,

If anything, we should see Favre to the Jets as a good thing. As a fan of football and specifically the Patriots, one cannot help but be excited for this season. Why? Because now the AFC EAST has some competitiveness to it. Think about it...When was the last time the Patriots played ANY competition in the East? When is the last time there was another good QB in the division other than Brady? When Marino and Manning were around in the East, games were exciting to watch and it was fun. The East has been a whipping post for the Patriots these past couple of years and as fun as it was to see them crush the Jets, Bills, and Fins, I think Favre coming to the East will atleast make the division a bit more legit.

No matter how we want to cut it, Favre coming to the Jets, one thing is clear: He DOES make them better. Anytime you bring in a guy of Favre's caliber you know things HAVE to get better. He is obviously better than Pennington or whatever the hell the other guys name is. Will he bring them to the playoffs? That remains to be seen. But as a fan of football we should we excited we've got some competition in the league now. I'm looking forward to the games now...especially against our rivals!

The question is whether last year's very good season for Favre was

an aberation. Was it one last good season before he faded into oblivion

MADDEN CURSE LIVES ON!

No injury could ever be worse than being a Jet...

Be it for better or worse I'm glad the Jets did this. It will add some interest to a division that's been kind of boring for a few years. Favre's forte is turning busted/broken plays into gains. He'll be fun to watch.

Absolutely, and that's why I love the trade. The real winner in all of this is the NFL Network, hosting the Jets @ Patriots game on Nov 13th. The real losers are players 2-53 on the Jets roster, whose names will never be mentioned.

My sentiments exactly. And since Miami is unlikely to do as poorly as last year, I don't think we can have that spectacle to watch.

Now the jets will trade Pennington or cut him. How much net cap room will they lose, and what were they going to use it on anyway?

The jets will have Favre and a couple of young QB's. I don't see how this is a negative for them. They went from aweful to competitive, unrealistically hopeful for a wild card birth this year. How can this hurt their team? Favre is a 1-3 year solution. If you are concerned about age, check out how old Blanda was when he retired as a QB and a K.

Blanda couldn't play in this league in this era. And Tannenbaum himself stated they have no committment from Brett to play beyond this season. And they likely can't trade Pennington because of his $6M salary. Brett will cost them DOUBLE what they were paying Noodle, and at best that translates into $6M they won't have to roll into the future (which I don't think Tangini cares about as their's is now)...when a couple of young QB's Brett will not mentor (although that could be a good thing...) who had no chance to get near a field while he added to his consecutive starts and INTS career leading stats will be become plan A circa 2009. Unless the new HC and GM have a better idea they can sell Woody on.

This is why Bill didn't want to see Eric go to NY. He understands that this is the karma of that organization. Trying to pull a rabbit out of their ass for short term buzz rather than staying a course. That's why it's ultimately a black hole post for coaches and GM's.

It took a perfect storm for Brett to have a (personally statistically) great season at 37-38. Very good young team, familiarity with the personnel, coaches and system, a 10 month committment to do something he inherrently abhors (film study and disciplined execution of and adherence to a coaching staff's game plan).

It will take a full out miracle for him to approach anything remotely resembling that this season, given a late start and no familiarity with the personnel or system or division or conference in a much tougher environment for QB's on and off the field. It's far more likely to end in a monumental cluster**** for all concerned.

Bottom line for me.

One. Favre will probably have a mediocre year at best at age 39 and get massacred by the NY Media ala Randy Johnson, another veteran HOF-bound star from a (relatively) small media market who left the Apple with his tail between his legs and his back riddled with Tabloid bullets.

Two. Great. This takes the east coast media attention off the Pats and puts it on the Jests and Gints. Let's fly under the radar this year instead of being every mediot's favorite headline.

I'm not worried about the jets.

they are going to be more ballsy now but that's about it.

Favre and Crotchery might have some Favre/Jennings type plays but other than that, i don't expect much.

Plus you have to remember he's going into a new lockerroom where he's never been. Green Bay is used to his "im bigger than the team" b.s. and they all put up with it. In New York im not so sure he can pull that crap... and if he can, than they are gutless and won't win anything anyways

I'm excited that maybe both Pats/Jets games could be on National TV now.

and it gives me a reason to hate Favre and the Rats even more. SACKS OF TRASH.
