Moments you still remember even if the score didn't go our way. A few of mine

49ers @ Pats in 2012 when the Pats rallied from a 31-3 deficit to tie
Pats @ Denver in the 2005 playoffs. Ben Watson chases down Champ Bailey
Pats @ Seahawks 2020... Cam Newton was 1 yard short of rallying the team from a 10 point deficit to win
Pats @ Jets 2010... Revis gets Mossed
Dolphins @ Pats... Flutie drop kick
Pats @ Colts 2006 AFCCG - Asante pick 6 gives the Pats a 21-3 lead
Cowboys @ Pats, 2021 - Mac Jones to Bourne
Pats @ Green Bay 2022- Aaron Rodgers TD pass to Jack Jones. Lol
Pats vs GB, Super Bowl 31 - Curtis Martin TD to get within 6 in the 3rd quarter... looked like they had a real shot and then well you know what happened on the kickoff

A couple more

2015 AFCCG @ Denver - Brady throws a dot to Gronk downfield on 4th and 10 with 90 seconds left Pats down 1 score.
2022 - Bears @ Pats, Zappe's final 10 minutes of fame in the NFL

1999: Patriots are driving, have all the momentum, Bledsoe leading them on a comeback late in the year, they get down to the opponent's 20 and Pete Carroll tries to call a buzzkill timeout. Players ignore him, Terry Glenn looks at him and shakes his head like Carroll is out of his mind.

This was the crystal clear moment when the Kraft's knew Carroll had lost the team and that they'd be moving on from him. Feelers were sent out to Belichick because of that one huge moment.

technically not an in game moment

That was 1998 against Miami MNF which they ended up winning. Unless this happened again in 1999.

I'd have to go with Super Bowl 42 when Moss caught the TD. After they scored and the amount of time left, I thought the Pats were going to be the first team to go 19-0.

Then....

I clearly remember it happening toward the end of his tenure, because I was watching with 2 of my Patriot fan friends, and we all said he was gone. We didn't wait long.

Drew Bledsoe said while the team was divided on Carroll, he wasn't the real problem. The real problem was like how all franchises fall apart - injuries, bad drafts and personnel decisions. Had they just been healthy in 1997, they would've slept walked into hosting the AFCCG for the 2nd straight year. The bad drafts and personnel decisions were creeping up on them in 1998 and took over by 1999.

Carroll was a fine Coach and he proved that at USC and Seattle. If it weren't for the above, Bill probably takes a job elsewhere.

Or if Robert Edwards didn't get hurt who knows what happens next...

He certainly would've been better than the corpse of Terry Allen and Kevin Faulk, but that O-line was deteriorating badly. Tony Carter was also quite a noticeable downgrade to Sam Gash.

As bad as that team was, they would've been 10-6 and playing at Tennessee in the Wild Card had Adam not missed two routine field goals against KC and Buffalo. Yet, Carroll gets the blame.

December 27, 1992: Patriots lose 16-13 versus Miami in week 17.

Jeff Carlson was one of four (Hugh Millen, Tommy Hodson, Scott Zolak) players to start at quarterback during **** MacPherson's second and final year as head coach in Foxboro. The former Weber State Wildcat started the final two games (both losses), completing 37% of his passes with one touchdown and three picks. His most memorable play came in the final game of that forgettable 1992 season.

Late in the game Carlson took an incredibly bad sack that took the Patriots out of range for what should have been a game-winning field goal. It was just as well though, because that loss gave the Pats the tiebreaker over Seattle for the first pick in the 1993 draft, and New England ended up with Drew Bledsoe rather than Rick Mirer.

On a side note, both wins that season came when MacPherson was hospitalized, and Dante Scarnecchia took over head coaching duties on an interim basis.

Carlson's biggest claim to fame is being the original member of a very exclusive club: one of only two quarterbacks to ever start for both the Patriots and the Bucs.

In retrospect those were not bad drafts. Look at all the players. We said they were bad drafts at the time.

But Willie McGinest, Troy Brown, Chris Slade, Ty Law, Ted Johnson, Curtis Martin, those were pre-Bobby Grier.

Grier was responsible for Lawyer Milloy, Tedy Bruschi, Terry Glenn, Brandon Mitchell, Robert Edwards, Greg Spires, Damien Woody, Kevin Faulk. That's 8 good players in 3 years.

That game did feature a great performance by a little used Patriots running back. Scott Lockwood was the #1 back that game due to injuries and he rushed for a little over 120 yards. Of course, the mystifying decision to run a pass play late in the game while in FG range squandered Lockwood’s career best performance.

That game was also a lesson to me regarding expectations of players. I thought Lockwood showed that he could be a contributor in the future. Instead, he never got another carry and was cut early the next season. I learned that, just because a player has a great game or great season, there’s no guarantee they’ll maintain that performance in the future.
