Evan Lazar Patriots Draft Board

99% of the posters on this board could have come up with same list 2 months ago based on draft websites.
I like Lazar but this is not a revelation
It's very much a consensus board. But sometimes the consensus is correct.
Mike Giardi, by contrast, is going with Jalon Walker at four (and then coming back into Round 1 at 24 to pick up Josh Conerly at LT). Thinks Vrabel could use him as a chess piece all over the board.

Is Walker better enough than Campbell to risk screwing the pooch at LT for another year?

Giardi is crazy. Walker isn’t an edge and he isn’t an off ball linebacker. That would be one the worst possible picks for them.

if it's not abdul carter give me offense and preferably skill position at 4. if they trade back then i consider ot.

Walker is very highly rated by a number of pundits - number 5 at The Athletic (with Campbell at 6). By all accounts he is a game wrecker with a lot of positional flexibility. But agree he makes no real sense for us. At the end of the day they'll just make the "boring" choice of Campbell (assuming the two elite players are gone) and we'll have ourselves what amounts to a league average LT, which is fine seeing how hard they are to come by.

Of course, with the left tackles the Patriots have been playing recently, fans of opposing teams were never bored as they saw Maye sacked or running for his life.

I LOVE Walker obviously as a Dawg fan…but he’s a luxury piece on this team right now.

Now, of we go Campbell early and Walker slides….go get him late 1st by all means if you can get away with a 2 and the later 3.

That said, honestly rather come away with: Campbell, best WR available whenever they pick next, then BPA rest of the way

Compared to what we watched last year, a league average LT will look like an All Pro to us.

So they’re taking Campbell. Ok, he will be better than Vederian Lowe on the first day of training camp.

And he’ll only get better from there.

6-1 240, usually too small as a reliable edge. Michah parsons is the exception. Too much risk at 4 to take a player like Walker

no it wouldnt, selecting a tackle at 4 out of desperation is one of the worst possible picks

after hunter and carter are gone, which prospect isn't risky but worth a top 5 pick?

It's partly desperation, but it's a happy thing if need and availability meet, as seems to be happening with Campbell. He's universally ranked in the top 10, and mostly top 5-7, neck & neck with Membou. His SEC tape is great and he has all the intangibles. The arm thing is a dead issue. Nobody would call this a reach if we take him at 4. And the backdrop is we must land a starting LT, no excuses - it's not like we can afford to be cute and hope someone falls to us at 38.

That said, if we can drop a couple of spots for a high 3rd and still get Campbell or Membou, that would be ideal. Or if we have Banks or someone else rated as a starter and feel comfortable dropping down to the 10-12 area for a bigger haul, that's ok too. What wouldn't be ok is taking some other position at 4 and gamble on landing a starting OT at 38. That would be a high-anxiety wait for our 2nd pick, when we have these good alternatives that are stress-free.

I’m sure Walker is a good player, I just don’t see him holding up on the edge, and I think Campbell is the better prospect at off the ball LB.

I disagree, I think both Campbell and Membou are worth the 4. Would like to get them lower, of course, but both are among the best athletes to ever come out at tackle, and I believe both will be really good pros.

Looks more like a 'needs board' than a 'big board'. Not that a big board shouldn't reflect needs, but you also need to value players you think will just fit your team and know when their value is too great to pass on.

If you draft only base on need you end up missing massive opportunities.
