This morning on NFL Netwoprk, they said that Seymour will be the highest paid defensive player, regardless of position! And that is for a guy that they could have kept for the next three years, by franchising him. So can we all stop this cheap, and heartless stuff. Smart, calculated, yes, but not cheap. I think that an extention for Branch will not be far off.
BTW did you see what Seymour said in the Globe? "My goal is to make it to Miami and the end of the season"
They are not cheap, they are smart! When someone is worth the money, and RS is, they pony up, but they don't mortgage the future to do it. While other teams are using up future caps now, what the Pats did is make tough decisions about Seymour vs McGinest/Vinatieri and saving the future cap space for the next set of stars (i.e. branch).
Welcome to the board. And sometimes you've got to understand that some of our posters say things like this with absolute tongue in cheek irony intended. He was actually hanging certain members of the media out to dry on this one.
Good post, though. This team is not cheap, you are right. They always spend to the cap. Its just how they do it that matters. They place a dollar value on every player based on position, ability, performance, injury, age, etc. and offer the best dollars available to the players based on these factors. They very rarely take sentimental and emotional factors into consideration. Nor do they consider hype or name selling. These things would lead to a drop from excellence. Glad to see a new member understanding these concepts.
