End Of Day One Thoughts

Not much left for pass rushers, unless they want to roll the dice on Ojulari or DeMarcus Lawrence.
Ojulari's so intriguing but he never plays.
There are some pretty sweet EDGE players in the draft that can be gotten later on.

I think it's going to be more of a draft thing. If I had to guess, rounds 1 & 2 will end up being LT and WR in either order so I'd be looking to round 3. Bradyn Swinson, Kyle Kennard, Josaiah Stewart or Jack Sawyer make the most sense to me.

I'm not sure any of those guys will last to the 3rd tbh.
Ashton Gillotte should. Sort of a mini-binky for me.

It’s be good to sign one more interior OL. Onwenu should be entrenched at RG now that we have Moses at RT, but his deal is set up that he’ll be cut next year. Strange looks good enough to start at one spot, either LG or C, but is a FA after the season and hasn’t really been anything special so far. DAndrews is surely gone next year if not now. Sow/Robinson/Brown/JAndrews haven’t shown consistent starter level play yet. The FA class is good enough at interior OL that they should be able to get one long term starter here on the interior to help on the field immediately but also later their depth for next year as well.

At FS they need someone who can cover so they can maximize the flexibility their new coverage duo will give them. They can still draft another FS if they like someone with the idea that probably within the next 2 years one or both of Dugger/Peppers will be gone. The FA class here, once again, is good enough that they should have someone with signing.

Those would be my top 2 positional targets today because feels like they can get proper long term pieces there vs just stopgaps.

Who do you think they target in the second if they can land Hunter @ #4?

An excellent first day, especially on defense but there is still a gaping hole on the left side of the OL and I think there is still work to do on the pass rush off the edges. Although the latter can be dealt with in the draft.
Pick # 4 must be used for a LT.

Nail down the position for several years right here and now.

Still a lot of solid talent available today.

I think we did ok.
Milton Williams is slightly over rated, but should be an improvement over the waste of space that was Devon Godchaux... Paired with Barmore he should be able to continue his upwards trajectory... If Barmore isn't back, well then who knows

Linebackers Landry & Spillane are a definite improvement... I wonder if Vrabes sees some of himself in Spillane... Landry was a no brainer from the moment he was given permission to seek a trade... It's good to get a guy familiar with Vrabel in the LB room...

At CB, I was hoping to land Byron Murphy from minn... Think he is slightly better than Carlton Davis... The money is similar, so I guess the Detroit connection carried the day... With that said, Davis will help in the backfield because he's a pretty good CB... Gotta like the upgrade

Moses at RT is not a move I had considered just because of his age... But he is reliable, so it is an absolute upgrade to a key position... I really like that we can solidify the right side of the line immediately... Maybe Doug marrone can help develop Caedan Wallace into a long term solution at RT... God knows the last few line coaches were unable to develop anything... couldn't grow mold in a petri dish...

Did I miss anyone?

Cam Robinson is far from perfect, but would be a welcome short term improvement/stop gap, at this point.

Unfortunately to get him he will have to be paid more like a long term solution.
Agreed. What Vrabel's done is got rid of the " no one wants to come here" theory. Getting great players that fit the culture and what Vrabel's building. Same way Bill did. Guys that will help along the young players. We will add to the WR room I feel today or as FA goes on. Kupp feels like the guy. On defense Just WOW. Who's running 17x in a row on us? Who's attacking us passing? Tua and Josh Allen don't know what they are up against with this version.

Who do you think they target in the second if they can land Hunter @ #4?
Josh Conerly if he falls, Aireontay Ersery if he doesn't. The other possibility would be a pass rusher but I'd look to one of our third round picks for that.

I agree although if Travis Hunter is there at 4, you have to take him in my view. You could go Hunter - Ersery at 4 & 38.
LT is pretty near as important as QB these days. LT cost KC a chance in the Super Bowl twice. NE needs to run the ball too.

If NE waits until # 38 some team will move up and take Wolfies lunch money.

I am happy with the defense pretty much as is. Will it be the best in the league? No, but it is probably already middle of the pack at worst, and maybe even top 10 if Barmore comes back. Some odds and ends are needed but if this is more or less the D we field this year, it is more than good enough. Besides, D was never the priority this year. This year is about putting Maye in the best position to succeed and hopefully getting him some playoff experience. If they can protect him, give him better options to throw to and give him 1 playoff game, i think this year is a success!

As for the offense, Moses is a good signing. It isn't a long term solution, but not every solution needs to be long term. The point is he will protect Maye THIS YEAR and do it pretty well. There is still work to be done in FA...

WR is an interesting question now. with the signing of Hollins to be the 53rd guy on the roster (he does STs too) where does that leave us? Right now we have 5 locks for the roster most likely. I can't imagine them cutting Polk after one year... he was 37th overall pick. Maybe a trade? But would we even get anything back worth having? I doubt it. May as well keep him and hope for the best. Hollins contract would make him hard to cut. We'd take basically a 3.5 dead cap hit for nothing.. .which is basically what he's being paid this year anyway. So he isn't going anywhere. Considering their age and low cap number... Douglas and Boutte should be locks. Both have room to improve and are cheap and would do well as 3rd and 4th options. (I think Bourne can be cut... yes you need to eat some dead cap but he is expendable and you'd save about twice what you'd lose. But will he be? I think yes, but maybe not).

Those are 4 guys right there. Are they gonna carry 5 or 6? If they are going to carry just 5 that is 1 more spot open. If we get a FA that kind of hamstrings your draft a bit. If 6... then you have options but that means you go light elsewhere. Maybe they should though if we are going to carry Polk who may be useless (hopefully not).

At RB they need bodies, but they have their top 2 backs from last year... don't see it as a big issue at this point.

TE is fine as is. And of course the OL needs some help.

My hops for today is we get Diggs or Cooper and sign at least 1 good OL man.

No thanks to Diggs. I don't want him anywhere near Drake. I recall his last season in Buffalo constantly chirping at Allen about not getting the ball enough. He is not the type of player Vrabel wants on this team and wouldn't take him unless it was on a one year deal for a bag of Fritos.

Who do you think they target in the second if they can land Hunter @ #4?
Ersery. Conerly if he's still there. There are prospect tackles you can get in the 3rd and 4th too that will probably be better than the black hole we had there last year.

Yes, we would need to pay a lot. How much is it worth for a competent LT for the next two years? A lot, I think.

I don't think that we need an all-pro LT to be Super Bowl competitive, or to be on track to win half of our games THIS year. We need a competent starter.

Getting Robinson and one of the guards would go far in giving our Offense a chance to succeed.
Bue is Robinson really competent? Not sold/
