Eckel's cap number

I was looking at Miguel's page and saw that Kyle has a $5.8 M cap number. I had heard something about them doing something with his number to create more money for next year.

What exactly did they do? Although a good player, he is rookie minimum at best.

i too, have read a little about it, and still dont know the ins and outs. it does seem very odd that he gets a cap hit that huge.
