Wow. NE was 2nd in the NFL in shotgun use in 2006. That same rate of shotgun use would have put it dead last in shotgun use in 2016. The game has most certainly changed.

No. Shula with the 1978 chuck rule and Bill Polian's re-emphasis broke football. The 2007 Patriots just took that stupid rule to its logical conclusion.

I find it interesting that the best scoring offense in the NFL last year had the lowest shotgun %age. Have we finally overshot the shotgun use?
