1) He's 6-feet-6 and weighs 235 pounds. As Don Coryell often said, 'he runs like a deer.' He has plenty of arm. He's smart. He comes from a great background. He has a wonderful personality. He's a leader.
2) Second fastest quarterback at the 2008 NFL Combine, O'Connell ran the 40-yard dash in 4.61 seconds.
3) He lead San Diego State in both passing and rushing in the same season (2007). He holds the school career record for yards rushing (1,312) and touchdowns rushing (19) by a quarterback.
4) The New England Patriots selected O'Connell with their third pick (94th overall) of the third round of the 2008 NFL Draft, the highest pick the Patriots have used on a quarterback since they drafted Drew Bledsoe first overall in 1993. He was captain all four years in college.

If he can make decisions and throw like Tom Brady and rush like Steve Grogan then I would be very happy

Yes, to answer your original question

I think he'll develop nicely, just in time for when we'll probably need him. Just like cassel, in other words.

Yes from everything i've read about him i've been very impressed, hope it works out in the end.

And to give you an idea of how bad SDSU's offensive line was--he led the team with about 400 yards rushing. In other words, it's a good thing O'Connell can run a 4.6 40, because he was running for his life a lot of the time.

I'm very high on this kid. He's why I'm not worried about losing Cassel in '09.

We once had a QB that in a SB ran like a deer (in the headlights).

Seriously, we have a solid prospect and our 2009 #2.

Great then let's trade him too for some cornerbacks, safeties and linebackers that can play!

He certainly looks like a football player, hopefully he'll develop into a pretty good one.

Sounds like a good change of pace QB ALA wildcat formations. Wonder if there has been any discussion on that between the coaching staff.

I hope Kevin O'Connell never ever starts a game for the New England Patriots.

And that's not because I don't think he has a promising future.

If only this kid was drafted 3 years from now.

I realize that having a solid backup is a necessity, as this year proves. But if he never starts a game for New England, that would be a good thing.
