Did the lockout affect teams ability to trade players?

Since roster cuts were announced many people have been asking the question, 'why didn't the Patriots trade Brandon Meriweather, rather than simply cut him?' It is indeed a legitimate question, but perhaps part of the answer to that question can be connected to the primary NFL story of 2011: the NFL lockout. Also a look at last week's game between Notre Dame and USF, some news from Floriduh, and a musical blast from the past...

Ha Ha, wow, I don't think I've heard that song in over twenty years! What a great tune, if that doesn't get your body moving I don't know what will; that's getting added into the iPod today.
 
As a vested veteran, Meriweather did NOT pass through waivers. Chicago got him because they offered $3.25M and because Lovie Smith called him personally.
