Patriots improve to 10-2, three games ahead of Miami and tied with Oakland (!) for best record in the AFC
Rams drop to 4-8, third in AFC West
Tom Brady became the NFL's career leader in victories by a quarterback, earning his 201st by completing 33 of 46 passes for 269 yards and a touchdown to lead the Patriots past the Rams 26-10.
LeGarrette Blount scored the game's first touchdown, rumbling for a 43-yard, ankle-breaking score in the first quarter while spinning around safety Maurice Alexander in the process. Blount finished with 88 yards on 18 carries. Early in the second quarter Brady hit Chris Hogan for a 14-yard TD to make it 14-0. Stephen Gostkowski's 28-yard field goal in the final minute of the half upped the lead to 17-0, and then Ghost booted 48, 45 and 45-yard field goals in the second half to up the lead to 26-3 with 10:48 left to play. Rookie Jared Goff, making his third career start, threw a one-yard TD pass to Kenny Britt with 1:15 left to play for LA's only touchdown.
Julian Edelman and Malcolm Mitchell both had eight receptions, for 101 yards and 82 yards respectively. The Patriots completely overwhelmed the Rams, controlling the ball for nearly 16 more minutes (37:57 to 22:03), having close to triple the number of first downs (20 to 7) and outgaining LA by a whopping 240 yards (402 to 162). In the first half the Pats had more fourth down conversions (two) than the Rams had first downs (one). If not for a 66-yard garbage time completion, the Rams would have finished with less than 100 net yards for the entire game.
It was the Pats third straight win and seventh in their last eight games, while the Rams lost for the seventh time in their last eight games. The two teams headed in opposite directions after both began the season 3-1. The Rams lost the final seven games of the season (after HC Jeff Fisher and GM Les Snead were given mid-season contract extensions). New England on the other hand won each of their final seven regular season games, and then all three postseason games, highlighted by the "28-3" super bowl victory over Atlanta.
Malcolm Butler and Kyle Van Noy had interceptions
Butler's pick led Chris Hogan's 14-yard TD four plays later
The defense sacked Jared Goff four times, including this one by Logan Ryan
