That does not mean what you seem to think it does.
To serve someone humble pie means to force them to be humble by showing them all of their shortcomings, usually in a humiliating way, and often to their own surprise.

With respect to the Patriots, it became a catch phrase in 2007 and meant that the players would come to film review sessions at least somewhat happy and self-satisfied about having won, but then coach BB would show them all of their screw-ups and drive away any complacency that had developed, making them realize that even with a win there were mistakes to fix.
Saying that you have to eat humble pie doesn't mean that you are humble, modest, down-to-earth, or any of that. It means that someone, usually an authority figure, showed you that you have shortcomings and despite any success you have gained, you had best fix them.
I'm not trying to get on your case, but I see this phrase mis-applied very often.
