In a move that was long, Long, LONG overdue, the NHL has finally pulled the plug on the Hockey in the ****hole of Phoenix AZ experiment:

Free at last; free at last. Thank Ganja Satan we're free at last.

I already have the perfect name for them too: the Choirboys!

Next up in the Get the **** Outta Here sweepstakes: South FLA & Exit-16W...

Wonder how well the beer concessions will do there

And who or what the **** is Ganja Satan?

2 instant rivals in Vegas and Denver.

One of these orphan teams needs to go back to Hartford

What a bizarre endgame (?) for this franchise. Winnipeg's WHA Jets became the NHL Jets then moved to AZ and became the Coyotes. The Atlanta Thrashers subsequently became the Winnipeg Jets. The AZ Coyotes have now stumbled and bumbled their way to SLC except they haven't because the clown that ran them into the ground, Alex Meruelo, somehow has retained the franchise rights but not the players or organizational structure which is headed to Utah to become the SLC Sister Husbands. Meanwhile there's another group in Atlanta angling for yet one more franchise to eventually fail there for a 3rd time.

Step right up folks! Don't be shy! For a paltry $700M you too can try your luck at the Wheel of Bettman!

Yep... The moral of the story, kids, is Never establish an NHL franchise in the Southern US, especially in the Black Hole of the ATL & in Phurnace AZ aka the Most Uncomfortable, Unlivable Major City in America not named Houston.... And never, Ever appoint a Basset-ball guy as your hockey league's commissioner.

Hockey can thrive in the more metropolitan southern cities with a decent proportion of transplants. OFC in snowbird communities the venue experience matters quite a bit, almost as much as the product on the ice. That's where the Lightning and Preds succeeded and the Coyotes failed.

Atlanta is a different story, it's just a **** sports town

I wouldn't paint such a broad brush in regards to the NHL and any area south of the Mason-Dixon line. Hockey thrives in Vegas and Nashville. The most popular sports team in Tampa is the Lightning, and it's been that way for two decades. Pro hockey has more support in Raleigh than it did when the franchise was in Hartford.

Meanwhile Buffalo and Winnipeg are near the bottom of the league in attendance, even though they have little or no sports competition in their cities. Ohio is all about football; they couldn't support a team in Cleveland, and less so for Columbus. Quebec City couldn't support an NHL team even though they were the only game in town, for many miles, and it is their national pastime. Ottawa is borderline.

The jury is still out regarding the Panthers. Miami is the 9th largest metro area in the US, but it has never been supportive of teams unless it is the latest trendy hot topic. They're a big draw in south Florida this year, but I doubt it will last once the newness of winning dwindles down. Atlanta is the same way: huge population, but no corresponding pro sports team interest. Part of their problem is that it is so time consuming to get from one side of the city to the other.

Arizona was a case of massive mis-management rather than location. I don't know that hockey will thrive in Utah, especially since it will have to go head to head against the state's only other pro franchise.

Dallas NHL is thriving. They totally fell apart these last 3 game and looked like the Bruins minus Swayman.

Florida Panthers games are packed. Kinda of good sign that Boston lost to a Stanley Cup team. I hope that they beat Edmonton.

Atlanta is not a good pro sports town. College sports? Yes.

I think Vegas and Nashville thrive due to the entertainment capitals they were, long before the NHL moved in. Plenty or corporate interest.

**** the ****ing EXISTENCE of a South ****ing Florida NHL franchise as well as their ****ing phony, soccer- & jai alai-loving, undeserving, NON-REAL HOCKEY fans.

The fact that people here are even debating this is ****ing bizarre to me.
