Cowboys losing interest in Adam?

I cannot speak for the Cowboys but truthfully I am starting to lose interest in Adam and I never, ever thought I would say that. My God, he won 2 SB's for us. Maybe I need to go on IR for a week or two...... :rocker:

It could be that Vinatieri is just an egotistical jerk.

He clearly thinks his you-know-what doesn't stink when it comes to setting a price tag. How else can you explain taking a full week of free agency to even find a team that will bring him in for a visit. And, that's with an agent working the phones for an entire year to line up bidders.

Take the emotion out of the equation, just as BB will do. AV is the best kicker available right now, and we need a good kicker. I would love to see him return, but feel 3mm and 4-5 years would be overpaying. If Green Bay offers that much...he will take it.

We have offered 2MM, so, the question is, will we offer more and for how long? How much will we guarantee and how much of a bonus will we pay. Weigh all of that against what Green Bay offers, they need a kicker as well don't forget.

AV will follow the money, just like most. Our advantages are the endorsements that are in place and his folk hero status. There certainly is tangible value there.

I think he stays at 2.25MM / 4 years / with a decent cap friendly signing bonus.

All would be forgotten after the first (made) FG.

If Vinateri leaves Green Bay without signing, the Pats should take their previous league-high offer off the table and deal with him strictly on a market basis. As you say, take the emotion out of it and treat him just like any other scumbag free agent.

There would be no need to pay him a dime for than Longwell. If that's a pay cut from last year, too bad. Screw him.

Vinatieri/Givens

It is a little interesting to compare Vinatieri's situation with that of Givens...

Vinatieri was already one of the highest-paid kickers in the NFL, and for good reason. So what's he looking for? To be *the* highest-paid kicker? Considering where kickers fall in the salary spectrum, how much higher could that possibly be? 20%? 25%?

Givens, on the other hand, was being paid relative peanuts (less than 500K/year, if I'm not mistaken) for a starting #2 receiver. When his chance came to explore free agency, he's looking at deals for 5-10X his current salary. That's too big a multiplier for anyone in their right mind to pass up. I regret the fact that Givens is gone, but I certainly can't blame him for it.

My point is that I really don't understand Vinatieri's motivation. He's got a lot of respect from the team -- in terms of salary and in terms of making sure he's got his tools (read: long snapper, holder) signed long-term -- and is certainly not an afterthought for the fans. He's probably even got strong potential for the Hall of Fame after his adventures with the Patriots. So what's left? $500K more a year? I just don't see it...

Ha, you didn't exactly remove the emotion there at all.......let's just get him back and hear him say he loves it here and is so happy it all worked it. I just hope GB doesnt use their many millions and overpay.

I don't really want to hear anything from Vinatieri whether he re-signs with New England or not. I'd love to have him as our kicker, but he's just a hired gun. For him to say he's happy to be in New England would be just so much hot air. He does't give two hoots whether he's kicking for the New England Patriots or the Arizona Cardinals. The only thing he cares about is the bling. I'm not going to invest any warm and fuzzies in that.

And just how many players can you name that are not?? Brady? He makes serious money, but he did not break the bank. Bruschi?? A throwback and the consumate professional - but he is the exception. Sadly, there are not many more my friend.

Do not allow the business of football interfere with your love for the game and your Sunday enjoyment, you will drive yourself nuts if you do.

Adam is an arse!!!!!

Sorry, I'm just trying to join the spirit of the thread.

This reminds me of when Jason Varitek of the Red Sox was out exploring his options last winter. People on Red Sox message boards were ready to tar and feather him. As soon as he reupped with Boston, everything was fine again. Of course, Varitek's agent was the infamous Scott Boras.

Knowing that Vinatieri is a jerk hasn't stopped me from rooting for him this year, just like it didn't stop me from rooting for other jerks who have played for the Pats (Ty Law, for example).
