Nice of you to chime in. It's been awhile since you've made your usual snarky comment to whatever I post. I trust that you are well.

You think that it is snarky to question whether being the best center is the key to who is kept as the 6th IOL, if there is one? really? Many think the choice for 6th IOL is Mafi. I guess that could be considered funny (or for the cap, outrageous).

I'll try to be more clear and less snarky.

1) I think that our starters are Sow, Andrews and Onwenu.
2) I believe two backups are very likely to Robinson (OG) and Leverett (C/OG). And yes, some think that Jordan is an even better C/OG.
3) We likely will carry a 6th IOL; perhaps we won't.
-----------------------------------
OPEN QUESTION
What should determine who we keep as the 6th OL?

Being the best center is a very reasonable position. Personally, I agree. If there is an additional IOL on the 53, he should be a center who also could be an emergency OG. Maybe we have that man in Jordan, although he probably could do that job from the Practice Squad. In any case, we will need to acquire another center or two for the Practice Squad, perhaps even a player for the roster.

I guess the bottom line is that are replacing Jake Andrews, our 2023 #2 center.

Andrews being injured secures Leverett’s roster spot. Mafi can secure his by playing well, same as before.

We clearly both believe that Center is an underrated position on the OL. We've been fortunate with Andrews for many years and probably, given how having him being as dependable as he's been (being out with blood clots the biggest exception), we've been largely whistling past the graveyard for the last few seasons by not having a truly solid Center to not just fall back on if Andrews gets injured, but to step right in when he retires. I fear that until we find out that Wallace can become a cornerstone at RT at least and combined with getting a stud in the 2025 Draft for LT for the long term, we may have to keep an OT as the 6th OL because there is just too much unknown at that position. A solid OL will greatly help Maye become what we hope he can be (even if he isn't the starter until next year).

We could keep 6 IOL's and 4 OT's. Given our injuries, youth and uncertainty at OL, I actually prefer carrying 10 OL's.

IOL (6)
starters: Sow, Andrews, Onwenu
backup G: Robinson
backup C/OG: Leverett
backup C/OG: Jordan or acquisition [I fear that the team might want Mafi; in that case, I wouldn't carry the 6 IOL, but rather an OT.

OT (4)
Okorafor, Wallace, Anderson, Love (or acquisition)

That's just the cap being the cap.

He didn't want to draft Mafi, and didn't want him to make the 53 last year (I tended to agree)

IMO, the team agreed also, drafting Robinson to replace him.

Hopefully, the Pats can come up with an offensive tackle better than one of theirs during cutdown time,
It will have to be an inexperienced player because veteran players will avoid them like the plague.

I never want to see Mafi pulling again.
Premature thread of the year.
