That's it. That's all we need to do. That's what we did the last time we were optimistic about this team in 2021. Running the ball effectively is the only way to magnify Mac's and our OL's strengths while limiting their liabilities.

- The OL struggles in pass protection and the best way to get better at that is to pass protect less and have the upper hand because the defense thinks a run is coming.
- We have great OL personnel for running if we aren't already 14 points behind. Sow and Mafi are big. Put one of them in at RG and move Onwenu to RT. Get our five best OL on the field.
- Mac does best with timing based throws out of the play action rather than reading the field.

It's what we did well in 2021 when everyone had a very different view of Mac and it's what we need to do now. Remember all the talk in 2021 about how BB was going to reverse NFL pass happy trends by running the ball and playing great defense? We need that back.

Have you missed every* first down this year?

that might provide some answers....

If they could run, I'd love to see it... nothing better than watching a rb truck a line backer or two

* hyperbole ... sarcasm... eh whatever you want to call it

At this point in time I would rather see them run 3 times and punt on 4th down than put the ball in Corky's hands on 3rd down.

But for the love of Ganja could we have just a Little more imagination with our running packages pleeeeeese?

The OL hasn't been good in the run game this year. Better than the pass, but we really have nothing going of us offensively at the moment.

Pay Hog Hannah 150K consulting fee. Bring him up to spend 4 days with the OL. Film, field, whatever Hog wants to do. They do not attend any other meetings or practice sessions, just a crash course with the greatest. Monday - Thursday.

Friday the OL rejoins the team for situational drills and game plan workup.

Do this for three weeks.

They don’t have the players up front to that. Also, offenses are moving the ball fairly easy on the defense so that will take them out of running the ball quickly.

Rham looks slow and indecisive he's playing like an old RB with a lot of miles on their tires. Maybe they should bench him to light a fire under him. I don't think it's the OL I think it's the play designs and play calls not innovative at all.

They can't even get 1 yd on a 3rd down QB tush push. This O-line just doesn't open running lanes.

Even if the running game is ineffective I think it can still cause a defense to respect the threat of a run. I remember watching a big Pitt-Browns game many moons ago when the Browns kept running the ball even though Pitt was stopping them cold at the LOS most of the time. Late in the game in a big situation the Browns ran a play action and the defense let a WR get wide open but the Browns WR dropped the perfect pass and ended the game.

On the flip side, just mention the name of RB Ernest Byner to an older Browns fan and see what happens. At one time it was like saying Belichick to them. He had a potential game-winning run in the playoffs that ended very badly with a fumble.

If I had a choice I'd rather see my team power through an opponent with runs than go pass-happy. To this day I believe that the Pats would have beaten the Giants in the SB in 11 if they ran the ball more.

Running the ball, at least against great defenses which looking at their schedule is all the Pat's play this year, requires an opponent to have a healthy fear of the passing attack. If they commit to stopping the run (Cowboys D), then you'd better be able to pass the ball.

You could see in the Cowboys game how they went from respecting the passing attack, to outright abusing it.

Opponents will clog the line now and force Mac Jones to beat them. He either improves or turns into a puddle of water again. In which case you have to prepare and start Zappe like a starter for a week or so and see how he does.

If Zappe can't be competent, then you don't have a QB and need to go back to the drawing board next offseason.

Commit to running the ball.

Great idea.

The reaction from a good defense is simple. Add a player in the box, or whatever it takes to stop the run.

A good defense can almost always take away ONE strength.

but have run the ball muc better in the last two yrs with same supporting cast in the passing game. They miss a passing back like james white badly as well.
