I STRONGLY believe that the call for "full time" officials is nothing more than a red herring. It is designed to get our minds off the real issues that are ruining the game.
While at times I may put on my tin hat and join the mob that the fix is in. Most of the time I think the game is officiated pretty well. Think about all those "bang/bang calls they get right, and all without any replays. With all the second guessing that could go on, I doubt any of us could come close to the competency those guys do each Sunday. I mean really.
The solution in my mind is 2 fold. First give each coach 2 shots a game to challenge any play for a specific call. Give them a 3rd shot if they get the first 2 right (or not). It won't make the games any longer than they are now.
Second we ALL need to get back to the understanding that EVERYBODY involved in the game, the coaches, players, and refs, are human, and make mistakes. Those mistakes are part of the game. EVERYBODY's mistakes. We just have to stop taking them all so personal.
Now I don't know if that's possible given how gambling and fantasy have permeated the game these days.
