I sure hope we're just playing it safe with these cats (chung and page). We need 'em next week...

Patriots S Patrick Chung has been downgraded to out and will be one of 8 players designated as inactive for Sunday's game.

The secondary seems to be getting its usuall hammering this year...or maybe he's getting benched to avoid a "egregious hit" suspension for next week?

I'm fine with anything that makes him healthier against the Steelers.

Chung is such an exciting player to watch and he's been having a great year so far. I really hope that he is back for the Steelers game because if he isn't I'm going to cry like a little baby.

I would think that him sitting tomorrow is more of a precautionary thing with the 2 big games coming up in the next 2 weeks.

Plus, the early reports were that he would miss 1-2 weeks

Really? I remember BB saying that the injury wasn't to serious and that Chung was a fast healer. But nonetheless, I would rather him rest, and be ready for the next 2 games.

Wasnt he a game time decision last week? Thought they said he was doing drills before the game. Should be ready next week though.

Totally agree. I'll bring the tissues.

So how are the two inconsistent with each other?

huh? Sorry, i'm afraid I don't quite understand your statement.
I was just saying how it seemed not to serious 2 weeks ago, no reports about it graduating into something that could cause him to miss playing time, then he barely didn't make the cut against the Vikings and now the Browns, but i'm sure everything is fine, just letting him rest and get ready for the next 2 games.

SergioB time. Pretty quiet last week.

Unlike some other coaches (or managers I have previously worked for), Belichick does not focus solely on the short term; he works a balance of both short term and long term benefits. Obviously whatever benefit there would have been with a less than 100% Chung over a healthy Sanders and Brown was not worth the risk of him not being available next week.

I know there's a mantra of one game at a time, and focusing strictly on the next game, but when it comes to personnel decisions - whether it be a trade or decision to sit a player who might be able to play that week - the head coach hat comes off and the GM hat goes on. That balance has worked well for businesses that have remained relevant through the years, and it has worked well for the Kraft/Belichick era Pats over the last decade as well.

As usual BB is cautious with injuries early on in the season. the injury list goes down as it gets late. iam sure if it was a playoff or critical game he could play.

Better safe than sorry. Let him rest up for this week, and be ready to go against our next two opponents.

I hope we don't have a Bob Sanders on our hands. Seems these medium-sized guys who hit hard, end up getting injured alot.

Just as long as BB didn't give him the kiss of death and call him "day to day".

I can't believe you'd be surprised at any status change. Don't you realize that nothing BB says about injuries means anything? Or have you forgotten statements like "so-and-so is improving every day" only to see him put on Injured Reserve the next day...

Okay, now I'm officially worried.

Agreed. We could beat the Vikings and Browns without him, but against the Steelers and Colts, we could really use him.
