Thought I'd add another Cassel story to the main page. Here's an article on ex-Pats scout Matt Russell, the scout who recommended Cassel to the Pats.

Excerpt:

Russell immediately e-mailed Patriots coach Bill Belichick and former New England director of player personnel Scott Pioli, trying to sell them on Cassel."Ultimately it's Bill's call, he pulls the trigger," Russell said. "I basically said this guy is a legit prospect and we ought to try to draft him if we can. I think half of the seventh-round picks get cut, but we wanted him."

On his spot on Sirius/XM this morning, Cassel said that Russell was one of only a few scouts there with an interest in them. Cassel said he was in the last group, and a number of scouts had already left, but they started filtering back when he started throwing. Said Russell gave him a card and asked to have some film from scrimmages, anything sent over. Cassel's own words.

We need more scouts who stay late and find gems when other scouts are leaving to go get a beer.
