This is truly good feel-good story.

Patriots announce signing of Brockton native Jason Vega

I am excited for this kid. Born and raised right here in the Commonwealth. He deserves this more than ninety percent of the guys in the NFL. Jason Vega--a name many, many more fans will know of when the season's out, I suspect.

And, BTW, this enables us to focus on CB and WR for our early draft picks. Someone like DJ Hayden, another incredible feel-good story, or Jamar Taylor in the first round.

.......Meh...

Ah yes, the Patriots can safely neglect the pass rush in the draft because they have a guy who had 5 sacks in Canada last year on the roster.

I don't know that he can play strong side defensive end for us but his speed and athletic ability does intrigue me. Right now I see him and Marcus Benard as fitting for a pass rush specialist role that Scott held last year. Unless Vega could play SLB and backup Hightower which would really give him an edge.

Vega is a feel good story. Many UDFA's will join him in camp as long shots to make the roster. Some will make the 53 roster, as they always do. Some will make the Practice Squad.

BUT, we're talking about making the bottom of the roster, not being a serious contributor.

I think it's to early to make that determination. He has the size, the athletic talent that you'd look for in a defensive end or outside linebacker. He did have interest from at least 5 other NFL teams as well it was just over shadowed by the Armstead pursuit.

Basically Im treating Armstead as a 3rd rounder, and this guy as an Undrafted FA.

Camp fodder, nothing more, nothing less.

I'm doing a 2nd for Armstead and I'm honestly clueless for this guy Vega. Maybe a 6th rounder in the mold of M. Carter from a few years back.

Armstead I see as a sure bet to be a starter in the next few years. Playing LE in the base and DT in nickel and dime.

I don't much about him but so I guess you could be right. Guess we will see if he shows much early in camp.
