After going through Miguel's thread on the AH cap situation, I took a trip to his web site (patscap.com) to check it out. For the record, the Pats are about $10MM under the cap right now, so a mid season extension could be likely. Besides its good to know thatg they could actually afford to pay Richard Seymour what he wants....if they wanted to.
I also noticed something that may or may not be interesting. The Pats currently have only 5 players making over $4MM (Brady, Mankins, Volmer, Mayo, and Talib). The Pats have always been very good at winning games, while keeping the cap under control. So I wonder how that would compare with the rest of the league in that stat
For example looking at the division. With one of the worst rosters in the NFL the Jets have 6. The pernicious Bills also have 5 and the newly prolific Dolphins have 15 Though none of those 15 exceed $10MM ((according to Jason's fine work)
Another way to look at it, The top 5 players for the Pats take up approximately $44MM. While the Jets with one of the worst rosters in the league, their top 5 take up $51MM
All that being said, Does anyone know where the Pats stand on doing what's been very successful for them, in other words, keeping a very strong "middle class" on their roster.
