I suggest that we analyze the cap effect of offering 4 year extensions to Wilfork, Green, Mankins and Seymour.

It seems that the three components of an extension are:
signing bonus
2010 team option bonus
2010-2013 salaries

It would seem that only the signing bonus would count against the 2009 cap. Is that correct. For example, if each received a $10M signing bonus, the effect on the cap would be 4 contracts at $2M a year ($10M over 5 years) or $8M. The 2010 cap effect would be this $8M plus the salaries plus 1/4 of the 2010 bonus. Is this all correct?

There may be other structures that work a bit better, with spreading some of current salaries, but I am not sure the effect is large.
