The question relative to the OP for this thread wasn't how $11mm fits into the Pats plan, it's how it fits into the plans of the trading partner. If I trade before the bonus date, I have to give up something and still pay the $6mm bonus. If I wait and the Pats pickup his option, that's $6mm less I have to spend. Granted the Pats would want more in return in the trade, but at least that would be negotiable. If the Pats opt out then I can go after him as an FA with all the other FA's with the benefit of seeing what else is available.

But none of that matters since it's been pointed out that he can't be traded. So if we turn to should we pick up his option. I'd say no. I'd let him test the FA market. We can sign someone else like him with a similar contract to his 2007. Sure it all hinges on Moss. But it also hinges on the SB. Who doesn't want to play for a winner?

Those aren't the options trading him after picking up the bonus is basically moot due to cap acceleration. Sounds like trading him before is moot, too, based on this thread. But if we could trade him, then trading for him and paying the bonus would have been a viable option vs. having to compete with the whole league for a UFA.

LOL and we all know how easily WR's are replaced in this system... We should just wait 'til pre season and see if Tom even wants any for 2008...
