Can we talk about the fake kneel down?

I would have loved the free kick try.

The ball was right around the 35 (usual kickoff spot). Ghost has put them through the uprights from there. And even if he didn't, he's blasted it out of the endzone plenty of times from there so there would be a very low risk of any sort of return. (On a fair catch free kick the clock runs once the ball is kicked).

That play was closer than it ended up. I liked it. At that point in the game all stops were off. If any of the front blocking linemen had turned around or slowed down the chasing D linemen it would have made that play much more interesting.

Absolutely agree- I watched this play multiple times because I thought it was cool. One thing that struck me was that hustling Falcons D-lineman (I think it was 91) who ran down Dion Lewis from behind. If Dion Lewis had ran that really hard (I think he's faster than that Falcons d-lineman) there's a huge hole, or if an O-lineman had looked back and blocked, I think it might have gone for a touchdown.

i rewatched this play a few times today. it actually has potential but dion winds up sandwiched between his blockers and the edge pursuit from behind. i think he could have just committed and hit the gap he did have a bit harder, because if one or two of the upfield blocks had developed a bit faster he had a lot of open space in front of him and he's fast as hell. but then again i bet bill just told him, if its there great but don't force anything.

ha didn't see this, wrote the exact same thing. It was a cool, underrated play that really could have gone the distance.

Not sure why :

A) You don't try a hail mary.

B) Free kick like that Rams SF game a few years back.

C) Guess its moot now.

the free kick was in play......you can see BB reminding JE to fair catch if the kick was short

I like the way the Pats were trying special plays to get back in the game: fake fair catch on the punt, onside kick, and fake kneel down. I was hoping for a hook and ladder, you don't see that much anymore but it usually is successful.

That play was close to working. Only three falcons down field when Dion tried to plant to cut inside. Would have been one for the ages.
