Sweeney didn't let the grass grow under his feet. The B's have signed Elias Lindholm and Nikita Zadorov, both to fairly reasonable contracts as well. Pretty good fits, Lindholm fills their need for a 1C and Zadorov brings size and attitude on left side D. When you throw in moving Ullmark and staying the hell out of the DeBrusk sweepstakes it's fair to say Sweeney is off to a decent start to the offseason.

Of course YMMV and I have no doubt the mileage of @captain stone certainly will

Mods can merge mine if they want I should have looked at this first

I just came to see what you thought.

As I just mentioned in another thread, Bs still need at least two top-6 Forwards, including another Centre & a RW, before they can be considered Legit contenders.

NGL they were both players I would have been happy to have at the trade deadline until I read Calgary was on Ullmark's excluded list. The prices on the contracts (Lindholm at <$8M and Zadarov @ $5M) are both reasonable as well. I'm convinced the best move Sweeney could have made was staying away from DeBrusk. He's an enigmatic player with a good skillset but it was def time for both sides to move on. Maybe he puts it all together in Vancouver and maybe he doesn't but it wasn't happening here.

Heinen would have been a worthwhile 'keep' but not for anything over $2M.

so...Swayman's contract demands. Do we really know what he is asking for? If he is asking for $10M per he is out of his mind. He has never been THE guy so $6M based on potential seems fair.

Yep.

If I were Sweeney, I would tell Swayman's representation: We need to set aside cash in case an in-season trade for scoring becomes available; but if your client insists on taking-up the rest of our budget, then we can lose just as easily without him as we've already done with him...

$6-7M would seem to be his comp number but something with an escalator built in wouldn't be unreasonable. Let's be honest, none of us would really begrudge him a bigger number if it weren't for the B's cap space.

I expect Poitras will be at least adequate but Fabian Lysell has got to make an impact for this team this year and take hold with Coyle and Marchand. Frederic and Brazeau actually bring more as as 3rd & 4th line wingers than they could contribute to Coyle & Marchy's game.on the 2nd line. They need someone with wheels.

"At the end of the day I'm optimistic because I think we'll find a landing spot before December 1st," Sweeney said.

Note: Boston will have played 25 regular season games by Dec. 1.

Agree.

Hes a tier below Hellebuyck's level ($8.5m AAV) and his deal was signed last year.

Maybe Sorokin or Saros are more his comp. ($8.25m and $7.75m)

I think 8y/$64m is a fair offer for Sway.

If hes asking for more then he is overpricing his value. He is not better than Buck.

any of our goalies that will start the season any good? I truthfully don't know...what i have seen from Bussi does not inspire confidence that he is the guy. do we know anything about the others?

Korpisalo isn't bad, whether or not he has 'good' in him remains to be seen after the drubbing his confidence must've taken in Ottawa.
He sure didn't get much support there last year but he's had some pretty good seasons in the past when playing with a decent D in front of him. Certainly he'll be playing behind the best D he's ever had this year so there's reason to be optimistic in that regard

Do we expect Sway to sit and hold out?

Do we expect Sway to sit and hold out?

The 'me' part of 'we' definitely expects he'll sit out some. It's a tough spot for both Swayman and the team, he's between comps and had a rough arbitration last year that left some lingering hard feelings. Business is business.

Do we expect Sway to sit and hold out?
I don't think he plays for the Bruins again. Lot of hurt feelings on both sides and I believe they will either trade him or he sits. I'm actually siding with management on this one if everything being reported is true

Under that scenario, goaltending goes from a strength to a weakness.

Without Sway they are weaker than with him but I don't know as I'd go all the way to 'a weakness.'
Certainly even if Korpisalo bounces back we have to be concerned about the #2 slot. That said, it's easy to forget just how good Bostpn's team D is. The B's are a formidable defensive team that really cuts down an opponents high percentage chances. With only a few exceptions most any goaltender is going to be better here than where he played before.

If he actually turned down the reported offer ($7.8M per x 8), then he needs a new agent. I'm all for getting top dollar for yourself, but he is not getting more than that from another team

Columbus has loads of cap space.
