I think everyone who thinks the Pats are going to sign Revis are fooling themselves....dont see that happening.....Pats wont pay......AND Revis is not the same guy after knee surgery..is he?

Ummm...so you think it was BECAUSE of Talib that we couldnt beat Denver.....Did u see that game?

You ***** and moan that the reason the pats didn't win a super bowl because of a terrible secondary...

And completely ignore that the pats didn't even MAKE IT to the super bowl with "the guy" in talib.

The BIG FA move isn't in BB's MO. He won't pay over the odds. Others will.

as for the Jerk comment. Its more on Revis. Does he want to come here given his history with NE. I just see his head being turned elsewhere. I'd be shocked to see him here.

According to la canfora Revis would love to play in NE. Tires of the revolving door at CB, it needs to be addressed now no more bs mediocre players. Sign Revis and be done.

Uhh what's your point here? They "didn't even MAKE IT to the super bowl with "the guy" in talib" because he was hurt the past 2 years in the AFCCG.

Im happy they didnt overpay for talib. Very happy.
But its very disappointing that they didnt sign a guy like Verner.

They can redeem themselves with Revis but anyone really believes that? We have no money.

Fact is, we are a much worse team right now than we were last season. And until that changes people have all the right to be upset.

Uhh what's your point here?

That a guy who is absent for 1/4 of the season, and big playoff games shouldn't be the guy people are saying "I don't care how much, pay the man".

In the end, the secondary was improved, but never stable.

I don't watch Tampa play but from everything I've read guy never missed a beat and had no set backs. This upcoming year should be even better with a full off season of conditioning and not regabbing.

Why we fooling ourselves? According to Schefter and la canfora pats reportedly gonna go after him hard. Hell even Clayton said on sc Revis is visiting NE.

Honestly, good on Talib for getting paid. He just set himself and his family up for the rest of their lives and I can't blame him one bit. Even the biggest Pats homers on here would have done the same thing, nobody in that situation is turning down $56mil.

As much as I wanted to keep Talib I think the Pats certainly did the right thing not paying that price. Its not just the per year average that will be an issue for Denver, its the 6 year contract. For a guy with a bad hip that's 2 years more than I would be comfortable with.

Unfortunately the timing wasn't great for the Pats either. If this happened right at the beginning of the day we could have had a chance to move for another one of the top CB's. I agree with stelfans that Verner would have been a really nice option and I think his contract was reasonable, especially considering what some of the other guys got. It also would have been nice to go after TJ Ward, I was shocked he got less that $6mil per year. Luckily for us Denver overpaying for Talib helps balance out getting Ward for good value.

Why are the pats supposedly up against the cap while the broncos can pretty much sign whoever they want at any price?

I'm *****ing furious the Broncos got Talib, Ward, and now Ware any second now.

There won't even be any point in watching next year unless the Patriots actually bother to do something notable to improve this team. (Cut Wilfork, bring in Revis) I guess they're content with just winning the division and losing eventually in the post-season. Preferably in the AFCCG.

Sad to see Talib gone, but no way we should have been close to matching on that deal. That's just crazy.

And big free agent cornerbacks don't always work out. In 2012, the top free agent corners were Brandon Carr (disappointment), Cortland Finnegan (cut after 2 years in 5-year deal), and Carlos Rogers (cut after 2 years in 4-year deal). In 2011, it was Nnamdi Asomugha (cut after 2 years in 5-year deal) and Johnathan Joseph (excellent when healthy, struggled through a few injuries but played through it). The year before, it was Dunta Robinson (cut after 3 years in 6-year deal) and Leigh Bodden (cut after 2 years in 4-year deal, 1 of those seasons was lost to injury).

Not saying any were in Talib's class, just that most of them never finished the contract they signed and the signing teams rarely got the value they hoped for.

It sucks, but it's time to move on. Denver is taking on a huge risk here. But we played it smart, Talib got paid, both sides did the right thing.

I was always on the fence about signing Talib. Elite player when healthy, but constantly injured. He has never played a 16 game season in his life and he has had chronic hip issues the last few years.

The money the Broncos gave him seem ridiculous. A big gamble that he can stay healthy.

Personally, I would rather pay Revis $35 million in guarantees and $12-13 million a year than Talib $25 million in guarantees and a little under $10 million a year. The one positive about Talib and a few others getting this type of contract may mean that the Pats may see that the market has increased and not mind ponying up for Revis.

Part of it is because there is 7.5mil sitting in prison right now.

Revis is going to say that he loves to play for anyone who might pay him a huge contract when he becomes a free agent in about 9 hours. But I would assume if money is equal, he would rather play for a contender like the Pats than a bottom tier team like the Raiders.

This realistically is why the pats continue to fail and be unable to get it all done. WHY did we lose the last TWO SB'S? Because we had a piss poor secondary (other than Samuel in 07....and god bless Rodney but he was in decline) that cot stop crap. Since the glory days of 01-04....Pats overall have had #*$! for players in the secondary.....would we all agree on that. I still recall saying almost every year that when we DID finally get a SHUTDOWN corner....or an elite CB...We damned better PAY THE MAN...and add more quality CB/safeties to the mix. QUALITY players....not Joe bag o' donuts from Stop and Shop.

We had that guy in Talib...and they let him walk away....not just walk away...but to our biggest rival in the AFC. If they had worked on a contract earlier could have gotten it done. Now Denver keeps getting better..they are signing Ware too. It IS a big contract....everyone gets that. In my mind the guy has proven himself...and he DESERVED it. Now back to more mediocrity on Belichicks defense.....

Well, if you are concerned about the secondary in the playoffs, there is a very good chance that Talib isn't playing for either team in an AFC Championship Game with the Pats vs. the Broncos.

Talib is not worth that money with his injury history and I'd have been mad as hell if the Pats had paid him that much.

I don't believe there is any chance that Revis is coming here either.

The Patriots will do what they always do and thats find a way to have somebody decent on the field and win the division and have another shot for no.4 for Bob, Bill and Brady.

News Sucks BIG TIME! Seems like Elway is like a vulger swoonin in our players ala Welker now Talib and isn't it ironic that BB accused Broncos that Welker intentionally went after Talib in PO Game and now their teammates in Denver.

Broncos with TJ Ward, Talib and now Ware is in Denver gonna sign any minute and all this without Manning given back a dime?!

Part of it is because there is 7.5mil sitting in prison right now.

Is there an article that breaks down the numbers from the Hernandez-Cap situation? Didn't know it was that high.
