What was the point of this pick? They literally had no TE’s on the roster. WR’s were also weak. They had Michel, White and Burkhead. So when exactly was he going to play?

I am always surprised when folks think that rookies have to be a contributor in their rookie year. As fa as being active and carrying the ball, Harris is currently behind Michel, White and Burkhead in the depth chart. Given that Bolden is always active for ST, Harris won't be active instead of Bolden. Besides. Bolden has been OK as our #4 RB.

Also, Harris has been injured.

Finally, it is said that RB is the easiest position to learn. Perhaps, that isn't true in a sophisticated offense, where assignments are based on reading defensive schemes. Perhaps, Belichick isn't willing to risk Brady's health in the hope that an injured rookie will know enough to protect Brady.

Dawson Knox probably would have been a much better use of that pick.

That’s fine when your needs are low. They were dire need of WR and TE and took a CB when they were 5 deep and a RB when they had too many guys in front for him to beat out. And it’s not like White and Michel are going anywhere.

How will Harris ever have time to show his value with only 52 more games under contract?!

Ve thought the same thing in the last week or so. Both the db and rb that were taken in this years draft have hardly been on the active list never mind playing. I didn't mind either pick but they seem they were taken for depth or to play down the road. I'm sure there was a TE still on the draft board that could have helped NOW. This years personel moves from the draft to all the wide outs that have come and gone have been questionable

Yeah as really it shows that the Patriots are showing vulnerability there now. But then again they say that and written off the team. But you never ever let that fool you.

The CB pick could have been a TE and the RB pick could have been another WR. Oh what could have been.

Not to mention the ****ty Drafts we have had over the years. Where would this Team be without Tom Brady??

Michel was a health concern and you know it

Bashing the Harris pick is a result of hindsight

Patriots.com Draft Profile: RB Damien Harris

STRENGTHS
Solid in pass protection
He’s outstanding in pass protection, which you know is going to be great for the Patriots. He’s a north-south runner who runs through arm tackles and has very reliable hands.

NFL Draft & Combine Profile - Damien Harris | NFL.com
  • More than ready to stick his nose in and mix it up in blitz pick-up
  • Scans for leaks in pass protection and uses good technique to square and sustain blocks
  • Very capable as dump-off pass catcher with soft hands and desired ball skills
The Draft Network

Pass Protection - Frame, want to, and know how all check the boxes. Technique with his hands is a little underdeveloped, but he's still a comfortable distance beyond most collegiate running backs, and that issue should be nicely tidied up in the NFL. Recognition from inside out is clear and effective; rarely fails to find the threat. Delivers a shot and has some flashes of maintaining and continuing blocks long-term.

Helped in some small capacity, sure. But Dawson Knox leads all qualifiers in drop rate (19.5% of his targets and 24.2% of his catchable targets), and Watson has averaged one whole yard less per game since his return than Knox has on the season. The problem at tight end right now is the difference between Watson’s 25 yards per game and 2018 Gronk’s 53 or prime Gronk’s 77, not from Watson’s 25 to Dawson’s 26.

Eh maybe not. A lot of people bashed the pick at the time. I supported it but Knox would have been the smarter pick there. He came from the SEC, too, and plays a position that was of absolute need.

Well I guess his drops haven't hurt the Bills based on their current record. One things for certain Knox have to be a better Blocker than the older Watson and next to useless LaGlasse. That said I think Knox would have been good here. Also our TE evaluation is up there with our WR evaluations.
