Breer: Maroney wore a brace on his knee

Something that concerns me about Maroney's supposed injury; as much as I like Laurence' attitude and running style, I can't think of a great RB who was injured before he ever took the field for his first game. Part of greatness is durability.
Curtis Martin missed his whole junior year at Pitt. (That's why he fell to the third round.) Was he not a durable runner?

I don't mean injured in college, I mean injured in preseason action his rookie year.

and he and borges are going to be on tv every thursday night...go figure.

What a guy. When he was on EEI he yucked it up with Smerlas and Deossie when they trashed Borges. Now he's kissing his ass? He's just trying to position himself as the anti-Ordway. Good luck. We'll see how that plays out at ratings time. Felger, Borges and Tomase all bite.

ok so now im confused

he might play sunday???

and yes ppl are takin these games too lightly

honestly i think buffalo could make a game of it

i dont see our offense without a true number one wr and gabriel not knowing the offense all that well and brady and gabriel not knowing each other all taht well, scoring that much

its gonna be a low scorin game, granted i think we'll win but it wont be a cakewalk

What difference does it make? Martin was injured before he ever took the field for his first real NFL game. Did that make him injury prone?

I guess I'm a kool aid drinking optimist but even with mediocre WR we're still plenty strong with our running game and TE. If we put up less than 24 points I'll be surprised.

I'm guessing Maroney prob. doesn't play this week as a precaution. As others said, the rest of our roster should be enough to handle the Bills at home.

As far as people saying fans on this board are taking the first two games too lightly, I have a small news update: It doesn't matter what we think of the games.

Some might find this enlightening, but the games are played independent of fan thinking & input. It mostly comes down to how the coaches prepare players and how they players execute on the field, moreso than whether or not fans on messageboards dismiss & overlook an opponent.

I will go on record with or without Maroney my guess for the final score will be

Pats - 31
Bills - 10

A healthy Dillon/Faulk along with Graham/Watson, Brown/Gabriel/Caldwell will be enough to put up 31 on the Bills. Gabriel doesn't need to know the entire playbook to have some impact in this game. I can't wait until he does have a good understanding of this offense because he is a good receiver.

Note: I am being very liberal with the Bills score. I honestly think they could be held to a field goal or shutout, but I could also see them getting a garbage time touchdown.

You don't say? People who are in the seats have an impact on the players emotions, but us who will be sitting in our recliners, not so much. But if it makes folks feel better. I tried to relay that point earlier in this thread.

as weird as this sounds

ill hafta respectfully disagree

whenever me or anyone ive watched a game with got too ****y we somehow miraculously would lose a game

remember that interception bledsoe through in 1997 vs pitt when we were up by 8 pts with like two and a half mins left, ya that was my dad sayin the game was over

Pires with a different report on the practice...

Maroney's Status Up In The Air

ESPN reported yesterday running back Laurence Maroney will miss Sunday's game due to a knee injury. Wearing a red "don't-touch-me" jersey and sporting a left knee brace, the rookie was an active and fully-padded participant in yesterday's first regular season practice.
By league rules, the team doesn't have to publish an injury report until tomorrow.

Well either Tomase and Reiss are color blind or Pires wasn't there or was hallucinating.
Yep, nice to have the different reporters using different color goggles as they peer into the practice dome.

Rich Garven with some Maroney and Smith notes...

But Maroney and tight end David Thomas were among those players who, per Belichick’s orders, declined comment prior to practice. Many observers assumed it was a rookie thing, but it appears to have more to do with whether a banged-up player — especially a rookie — should be talking about a game he might not participate in.

It’s interesting to note that rookie Ryan O’Callaghan, who is expected to start at right tackle Sunday, held court with the media for quite a while.
-----
A third-year pro and former seventh-round draft pick, Smith appeared in 16 games for Buffalo. He has eight career receptions and, although limited opportunities, a sterling 25.3-yard average on kick
-----
Smith, the pickup from Buffalo, played a little quarterback at Georgia Tech.

Well, unless the pic from today's Herald article is old, Maroney was clearly nont wearing red non-contact jersey.

The online version lists it as a "file" photo, most likely from this summer...

Just checked Parente's notes column, so far only Pires has a red jersey, but everyone has the knee brace. still confused

Re: Breer: why did they trade patrick cobbs?

I'm not taking them lightly or assuming we'll win. But with a healthy Dillon it's a reasonable chance to keep Maroney out for a game to get him to 100% - if necessary.
maroney was already hurt by then....
BB/SP must be getting good reports about that knee.
they must be sure it's ok.
