Don't know if this has been covered on this board but...

Should the Pats manage to beat Cincy and Cleveland the next few weeks, there will be an interesting twist to the follwoing game in Dallas.

Tom Brady would be heading into Dallas needing to win to tie Roger Staubach for most victories in his first 100 NFL regular season starts (76).

Brady is currently 85-26 counting playoffs.

That game in Dallas is shaping up to be one hell of a game. The Cowboys have looked good so far and Romo is like a young Tom Brady.

He couldn't be less like Brady. He's mobile, a gunslinger, a little careless with the ball. He is good though and has a lot of confidence.

Romo is nothing like Brady...

Re: Brady vs Staubach

Makes me wonder why they don't include playoffs in the "First 100 games". It's not like the length of the season or playoff structure is affecting the number of games like saying "First 5 seasons".

Not good enough to handle that specially-buttered ball, though.

Say, who do you guess we'd have gotten instead of Meriweather
if the 'Boys had kicked that gimme FG vs Seattle ?

No thats just media hype, he crumbled under pressure.

If they did, I'm sure this puts him at the top.

I'll be there...headin down with my bro, cousin and her husband. gonna be a blast....

I'll take brady over staubach any day of the week and twice on sunday and sunday is the key day in question here.

Re: Brady vs Staubach

Romo in the 4th quarter when ahead or behind by 7 pts or less: 123.4

fewer

Oh, I have nothing else to add really. That's just one of my biggest peeves.

I watched the Cowboys last week and was impressed by Romo. Hopefully he keeps it up. It's always easy to pull for the undrafted guys.

By and large, including playoff games diminishes the opportunity to set records, since playoff opponents are generally tougher than regular season opponents. Having a 76% or greater playoff winning percentage is ridiculously unlikely occurrence. (Has any QB (other than Brady) with at least one playoff loss ever achieved this?)

To be consistent, playoffs must be excluded even when they help the record setter. We are still free keep track of "including the playoffs" records. The Patriots won 21 games in a row, even if the record books say 18.

Brandon Meriweather.

The only possible argument is that the Browns might have convinced the Pats to part with that pick, although then they'd be taking someone other than Meriweather with 28 instead (since Philadelphia would have taken him at 26).

I see no reason to exclude playoff games. This isn't baseball. The NFL is all about the playoffs, and players and coaches alike consider regular season records virtually meaningless without pressure performances in the playoffs. In fact, this idea of "career regular season wins" for a QB is really not something anybody gave a damn about before they started tooting Favre's horn last week. The measure of a QB is playoff wins. For that reason, to exclude playoff wins and losses from a QBs career stats is specious and ridiculous.

Bart Starr was 9-1 IIRC.
