Re: Brady and McDaniels hated each other....
I remember unoriginal's breakdown - and I remember a big component of what he said was that the gameplan was not flawed, simply that they couldn't execute it b/c the O-line played like it was hungover. I don't think its out of the realm of possibilities that McDaniels said that to Brady at halftime - for that very reason. The gameplan should have worked and would have it Mankins, Koppen and Hochstein didn't perform so horribly.
That, plus McDaniels fiery nature, and the number of similar verbal disputes he's gotten in with both coaches AND players in his short history makes it pretty easy to believe.
As for adjustments, I don't consider throwing short screens an adjustment for this offense, that has been a huge component of their game this entire decade - and the first play of the game was a screen pass, it was part of their game from the get-go. To me, the adjustment that needed to be made - and was made on the final scoring drive - was stop trying to get to Moss over-the-top, because they simply didn't have enough time to do it, b/c the O-line was pathetic that night.
I have no problem with either of these rumors. Coaches & players have spats all the time. It's naive to think these guys wouldn't disagree or have strong opinions on things, especially given McDaniel's track record and his personality as a coach - and that's not necessarily a bad thing.
And if you watched the game, they made adjustments all game long. It was just that the adjustments didn't work. They started the game trying to exploit the Giants' weak secondary and when that failed, they started a lot of screen and short passes but Brady didn't have time to even make those passes.
There could have been an argument on the sidelines. Brady is a firey guy and yells a lot on the sidelines. I just think the substance of the argument was BS. McDaniels made a lot of adjustments that game. You can argue he made the wrong adjustments, but he did make adjustments. All you need to do is go back and look at unoriginal's breakdown thread.
But I am tired of rehashing that old argument.
