It's effectively a timeout. But then you've lost the ability to stop the Steelers from running off 45 seconds on one of their plays on their next possession.

You're better off not calling TOs on offense when you're behind because you have the hurry-up. The problem is that the Patriots called like 3 or 4 plays after Gronk's catch.

Unless you're going to run off 40 seconds on offense like the pats ended up doing

When the only doubt about a play is whether a ball carrier, standing up, crossed the plane with possession, it should be easy to determine, with certainty, if it was a touchdown or not. The correct thing to do was to call that a TD.

correct. You call the TD so it is automatically reviewed and fair for both teams. Its like letting a questionable fumble play go on. If you blow it dead, it it happened to be a fumble, you just caused the recovering team pain.

this is the first, but very predictable, problem with the rule. it is only an automatic review on a scoring play.

I thought it was clear it was a touchdown. Gronkowski was standing in the endzone and didn't extend his arms back over the goal line to make the catch. Piss poor call that only looked worse when they showed the view from the goal line. That ref is a blind ****.

Im guessing that like us viewers they didnt have any other replay footage to look at. Does anyone know what kind of access to replays teams are allowed?

Brady seemed to delay the snap so as to allow for them to look at replays.
