On classic sports they were showing old "60 minutes" with NFL coaches. One was the bit from last year with BB.
They usually aren't the most informative pieces, but he said one very telling comment.
Something to the effect that in todays NFL it's much more like college.
In the old days you had almost the same roster every year. He remembers showing up every training camp & having the same guys on his D every year. Also he remembers all their opponents had the same players.
Today he said "your lucky to keep a group together more than 4-5 years". You have to approach things like a college coach where you have this short period of time to coach players up on your schemes. You also have similar turnover all over the league, which makes scouting that much more hard.
In otherwords, his view of the NFL under the salary cap is max out on players at a lower salary(Givens is an example of that), but move on when their contracts are up, replacing him with someone he'll need to "coach up".
It isn't a masterplan so to speak, it's simply how BB views the NFL in this era.
