Much debate last month surrounded lovable Colts coach Tony Dungy's appearance at an event for an anti-gay-marriage group (among other things) and whether or not Dungy would come out (so to speak) and endorse the group's platform. Well, he has. He "embraces" a ban on same-sex marriage.
"I appreciate the stance they're taking, and I embrace that stance," Dungy said. Local and national gay-rights organizations had criticized Dungy for accepting the invitation to appear at the banquet. The institute, affiliated with Focus on the Family, has been one of the leading supporters of the marriage amendment. "IFI is saying what the Lord says," Dungy said. "You can take that and make your decision on which way you want to be. I'm on the Lord's side."
Unbelievable. How ANYONE who professes to have devoted his life to the teachings of Christ can possibly think that this kind of thinking/behavior is appropriate amazes me. Jesus goes around embracing the lepers and the whores and the poor and the diseased, but yeah, he hates gays and doesn't think they deserved happiness and fairness.
"You can take that and make your decision on which way you want to be. I'm on the Lord's side."
What a passive-aggressive, arrogant, short-sighted, A-holey thing to say. I have some respect for Tony Dungy and I can't fathom the pain he's been through with the loss of his son. But his position is so decidedly (and OBVIOUSLY) UNChristian that it truly blows my mind.
